The 50th Anniversary Special of SNL (Saturday Night Live) has been concluded and it turned out to be one of the most significant television events of the year 2025 so far. During this live reunion program, numerous comedic giants graced our screens due to Lorne Michaels’ expansive budget, with a few exceptions such as Bill Hader. As the night progressed and Hader was not present, viewers began sharing their sentiments on social media about how much they missed his presence.
Many users expressed their thoughts and emotions on X (previously known as Twitter), commenting on the absence of Barry during Saturday Night Live’s most significant event. User @ohheyp mentioned that the Weekend Update segment lacked one of its popular regular guest spots, and one of Barry’s well-known characters, Stefon, was conspicuously absent.
The tweet matched the traditional GIF with an assertive tone perfectly, strongly advocating for those who believe the program overlooked a significant event. Although I was disappointed not to see the actor from Superbad during the episode (and part), I was more content seeing Drunk Uncle (Bobby Moynihan) and the Woman You Regret Talking To At A Party (Cecily Strong). However, I must admit that it would have been a delight to witness Stefon appear.
Regarding the most memorable characters from The Skelton Twins cast, I personally think Devin from The Californians stands out the most. Many fans, including myself, were not only figuratively but also literally disoriented (you should’ve taken the 101 to the 5) without Hader. T_04 humorously emphasized this by referencing Hader’s character, Devin, to express how much we missed him dearly.
The soapy-faced GIF with the signature laugh is perfectly funny and fitting as a compliment. Notably absent from the late-night sketch comedy show was the star of “Inside Out 2”, who spent a significant period (2005-2013) there. It’s no surprise that his absence has sparked such discussion.
Fans were saying that the evening seemed lacking without Bill Hader involved. BrunoCendon emphasized this by sharing a GIF of Hader as Keith Morrison from Dateline, and even mentioned another SNL legend to highlight the sentiment.
It’s understandable that they tweeted about the absence of the former cast members over the weekend, as it seemed like a big gap was left unfilled across various SNL fan communities, based on social media activity. I especially enjoyed seeing Jane Curtain and Laraine Newman displaying Gilda Radner’s photo during their farewell tribute to remember their late colleague.
User @JoshNason expressed a hypothetical reason as to why Bill Hader might not have been at the event over the weekend.
As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my eagerness for an in-depth documentary on the golden jubilee of Saturday Night Live (SNL50). Among the many intriguing aspects, one segment that particularly piques my curiosity is shedding light on the whereabouts of Bill Hader. I can hardly wait to uncover more about his journey and potential return to the SNL stage!
Summarizing the recent events in a mini-series or movie format would be an excellent way to capture the essence of the historic weekend. I’d definitely appreciate understanding why the actor from Noelle was absent, among other notable figures. Kbeninato perfectly put it in their X post, which also had a touch of Stefon flavor to it.

The priceless expression on Jenna Ortega’s face after she was squashed during the 50th SNL sketch featuring Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte is simply invaluable.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but ponder about the future of this ongoing discussion and if perhaps Bill Hader himself will engage with us, his fans, directly. Maybe there was a scheduling mix-up or he’s still managing an eye health concern, which kept him from attending the Golden Globes with his rumored partner Ali Wong. Regardless of the reasons, Bill Hader’s absence at the event is something we fans might recall for years, and we’ll continue to speculate about what could have been.
Saturday Night Live (SNL) Season 50 still has lots more to offer! At present, there’s no word yet on who the next hosts or musical guests will be, but announcements should be made shortly. Tune in to NBC on Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. EST, or with a Peacock subscription, you can catch it the following day and even stream SNL50: The Anniversary Special!
