As a long-time fan of “Vanderpump Rules,” I have watched Tom Sandoval’s journey with both fascination and disappointment. The “Scandoval” scandal shook the entire fandom, leaving many of us feeling betrayed and disillusioned. Sandoval’s subsequent legal actions against his ex-girlfriend Ariana Madix only added fuel to the fire, making headlines and sparking outrage among viewers.
Tom Sandoval from “Vanderpump Rules” faced a significant decline in popularity after the “Scandaval” scandal and his following actions. Things reached a new low for viewers on July 16th when Sandoval’s lawyers filed a lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend, Ariana Madix, accusing her of privacy invasion and unauthorized computer access. The day after, a user named VPR Fan started a petition called “Discontinue Tom Sandoval’s Participation in all Bravo Shows” on Change.org. Despite Sandoval withdrawing the lawsuit and issuing an apology for his attorney’s actions, the harm to his public image was already done.
The Change.org petition, which has amassed over 4,000 signatures in four days, reads:
As a passionate gamer and avid fan of Bravo’s shows, I’m dismayed to see Tom Sandoval’s repeated disappointing behavior. His offensive comments, disrespectful actions towards Ariana, and the filing of a lawsuit with apparent intent to harass, have left many viewers feeling let down. Keeping him on the network sends the wrong message and contributes to normalizing such behavior, which goes against the values reality television should uphold. Based on the collective feedback from fans like myself, I strongly urge Bravo to reconsider Tom Sandoval’s participation in current and future shows. Maintaining the network’s integrity and respect is crucial for its dedicated audience.
Since the debut of “Vanderpump Rules” in 2013, Sandoval has been a consistent presence on the series, which focuses on the personnel of Lisa Vanderpump’s SUR restaurant. Madix initially made her appearance during the second season. Their relationship became public knowledge during the reunion episode of that season. She officially became a regular cast member during the third season.
The Rise and Fall of Scandoval
After it was revealed that Sandoval had been unfaithful to Madix, who is his long-term partner, with their co-star Raquel Leviss, the popularity of “Vanderpump Rules” reached new peaks. The incident occurred after filming for the show’s tenth season had finished, but Bravo swiftly addressed the situation. The finale episode of the tenth season showed the cast’s reactions to Sandoval’s infidelity and a heated argument between Madix and Sandoval. A reunion special was held shortly afterward, where the “Vanderpump Rules” crew expressed their support for Madix and criticized Leviss and Sandoval. The scandal, which came to be known as “Scandoval,” led to increased ratings for Bravo and marked the first Emmy nominations for the show.
I’ve followed Vanderpump Rules since its inception and have always been a staunch supporter of Scheana Shay (Madix) after her heartbreaking discovery of Rob Valletta (Sandoval) and Ariana Madix’s (Leviss) affair. However, the eleventh season left me feeling conflicted.
After completing Season 11, Bravo stated that “Vanderpump Rules” would have a filming hiatus, causing some uncertainty among fans about the show’s future. Alex Baskin, an executive producer, explained to The Hollywood Reporter that this pause was essential for everyone involved to recharge. Regarding potential cast changes, Baskin hinted:
“I think that’s definitely possible. I think all things are possible. There’s still a strong core there. So I could totally see some version of the bulk of the cast returning and then some notable additions. I think there’s plenty of life. What form that takes, I don’t exactly know. But that’s certainly very possible.”
With the latest developments, it may no longer be essential to start a petition to remove Sandoval from Bravo. Instead, it seems that “Vanderpump Rules” might be approaching its conclusion. A change could possibly lead some cast members to Bravo’s “The Valley,” which includes former “VPR” stars and new arrivals. Many fans are unwilling to watch any more of Sandoval’s actions, making it uncertain if the show should continue. However, it’s worth noting that Madix, with her addition to Broadway, might have surpassed what “Vanderpump Rules” has to offer.
