Fast Saga’s Justin Lin Will “Never Say Never” to Anything Fast & Furious, Even a Jurassic World Crossover

Fast Saga's Justin Lin Will "Never Say Never" to Anything Fast & Furious, Even a Jurassic World Crossover

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in both the high-octane world of the Fast and Furious franchise and the heart-pounding Jurassic Park series, I can’t help but feel like a kid in a candy store at the mere suggestion of a crossover. The idea of Dominic Toretto outrunning a velociraptor or Brian O’Conner outsmarting an Indominus Rex is nothing short of exhilarating!

“We need to move faster!” If you find yourself running from a ferocious T-rex, having Dominic Toretto and his high-speed team on your side might just save the day. At a 2021 press conference for Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga (now available on Peacock), longtime Fast & Furious writer/director Justin Lin was asked about the possibility of a crossover between the Fast & Furious and Jurassic World series, both owned by Universal Pictures.

Longtime Fast Saga Director Not Opposed to Jurassic World Crossover Project

He expressed, through Collider, that he’s open to anything, “I don’t rule out any possibility.” A key part of his belief system is avoiding being pigeonholed or defined. That’s as far as I’ll go with details.

Michelle Rodriguez, who portrays Dom’s wife, Letty, stated, “I’m fully committed! When you reach a peak point, there’s only one direction to move – to combine and blend brands,” she explained. “This is what large companies do when they become too extensive. You simply need to rebrand and merge with each other. The main obstacles are lawyers and production studios. Typically, the brands you aim to unite belong to different studios. However, if they’re under the same roof, I’m not sure. I’m just saying, it could work.”

Title Ideas:

During a recent chat with Lin over Zoom, SYFY WIRE brought up the topic and Lin mentioned, “I don’t want to divert attention, but it’s great people are excited!” He clarified that his comment was made in jest, but he believes that’s the essence of Fast. We never say no, we just discuss everything thoroughly instead.

What Does Colin Trevorrow Think of a Fast & Furious Crossover with Jurassic World?

In contrast to Jurassic World’s writer/director Colin Trevorrow, the idea of merging brands isn’t something he embraces wholeheartedly. He expressed this viewpoint in an interview with ComicBook.com back in 2022. “The concept is relatively fresh,” the filmmaker stated. “When I was a child, mixing brands like that wasn’t possible. You couldn’t simply combine them as you did when playing with toys; instead, you broke them. Now, it seems as though whatever brand your parent company happens to own, you can utilize.”

If pushed, Trevorrow would prefer a collaboration between his project and either the Bourne or Purge series, both of which can be purchased from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Currently, the studio has no intentions of combining these intellectual properties, but they are actively developing new installments for both. The Fast & Furious franchise, specifically Fast X, will have two subsequent films. One of these will bring back Dwayne Johnson as his character Luke Hobbs. As of now, details about either sequel remain scarce, though we do know Louis Leterrier is returning to direct the eleventh (potentially final) installment in the main series.

Simultaneously, plans are underway for a fourth Jurassic World movie, penned by David Koepp (author of Jurassic Park and The Lost World) and directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). This upcoming July, audiences can expect to see this new chapter in the dinosaur series unfold on the big screen. The film boasts a star-studded cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, and Jonathan Bailey.
