Fatman Scoop Dead After Collapsing Onstage: Rapper Was 53

As a lifelong fan of Fatman Scoop, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of loss and shock at his untimely passing. His music and energy were a constant source of joy and inspiration for me, and countless others around the world.

The renowned Grammy-winning hip-hop artist, DJ, and broadcast figure, Fatman Scoop, passed away following a collapse during his performance over the weekend. He was 53 years old.

On Friday, during a live performance at Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut, Fatman Scoop, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, unexpectedly collapsed, as reported by TMZ through video footage. The following morning, his family confirmed his passing, without providing a reason for it.

In their declaration, the family described Freeman as “an illuminating spirit, a shining star both on stage and in daily life,” who held the title of not only an “exceptional entertainer” but also a “father, sibling, uncle, and companion.”

“He was the essence of laughter, always there for us, steadfast in his strength and bravery,” they went on. “FatMan Scoop was globally recognized as an unchallenged voice of the club scene. His music encouraged us to dance and view life with optimism. His happiness was contagious, and the kindness he showed to everyone will be profoundly missed but forever etched in our memories.”

MN2S, Freeman’s public relations agency, emphasized his distinctive voice, contagious energy, and charismatic personality. They acknowledged that he had been a valued client for fifteen years, and his lively essence, unending enthusiasm, and deep love for music will forever be etched in their hearts.

Sharron Elkabas, the CEO of MN2S, mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that “Before taking the stage, he consumed an energy drink. Normally, he doesn’t consume energy drinks, but he did so for this particular performance.”

Freeman is mainly recognized for his 1999 hit song “Be Faithful.” He also made an appearance in Missy Elliott’s 2005 song “Lose Control,” which earned him a Grammy. In the same year, he collaborated with Mariah Carey on her track titled “It’s Like That.”

Freeman and Dyce Paso recently unveiled the official music video for their latest single, “Let It Go,” on a Friday morning. Previously, he gained attention for his appearance on Tech N9ne’s song, “No Popcorn.” Across social media platforms, he has been applauded for his remixes of popular club tracks, such as those by Nicki Minaj and Tyla.

Per Elkabas, Freeman is survived by his son, daughter and brother.
