FCC Targets Disney, ABC With Potential DEI Programs Probe

During a time when the Trump administration is criticizing diversity, fairness, and inclusivity initiatives within the media and entertainment field, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Brendan Carr has encouraged the FCC’s investigative unit to look into potential violations by Disney and ABC.

In a letter to Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, made public on Friday, Carr stated that the investigation would focus on allegations that Disney implemented biased practices by using racial quotas, as well as other related issues.

In his letter to Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, which was released on Friday, Carr revealed that the inquiry would center around suspicions of Disney having discriminatory policies through the use of racial quotas and additional matters.

Disney has made a decision to alter some of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives this year, as a precautionary measure to avoid potential scrutiny from the government. This change involves deleting mentions of the “Reimagine Tomorrow” project, an initiative launched in 2021 with the aim of boosting underrepresented voices, and canceling employee development programs and fellowships intended for underrepresented talent.

Though your company has updated its branding approach for specific initiatives, it’s unclear if there’s been a significant shift in the core policies or if the previous actions adhered to pertinent FCC regulations, as suggested by Carr.

A Disney representative has shared that they’re studying the FCC’s letter and are eager to discuss the questions posed by the commission.

More to come.
