One of the most recognized horror franchises ever made, its shocking, unforeseen deaths have become cultural touchstones, even among those who haven’t seen it. With a new movie released in theaters, the film series is experiencing renewed success.
The terrifying horror series launched back in 2000 and now encompasses six main movies, along with ten novels and two comic book adaptations. The most recent addition to this franchise premiered over seven years since the last installment, shattering several box office records and quickly becoming a massive hit within its first week. Despite Final Destination Bloodlines continuing to draw large crowds in cinemas, it appears that four out of the five remaining films have found success on Max, according to recent reports.
Back in the year 2000, I ranked Final Destination second on my personal top 10 global movie charts. That spine-tingling ride was closely followed by Final Destination 5 from 2011, which snagged the fourth spot. A few steps down the list, you’ll find Final Destination 2 from 2003 in seventh place, and rounding out the top 10 is Final Destination 3 from 2006. These death-defying films have left quite an impact on my movie-loving heart!
Yesterday, all four “Final Destination” films were ranked among the top 10 globally. Notably, “Final Destination 2” held the fourth spot, while “Final Destination 5” was close behind in fifth place. “Final Destination 3” was positioned eighth, and surprisingly, the original film remained steadfast at number 2.
Interestingly, the highest-grossing film in the series up until another’s release in 2009 was “The Final Destination.” This movie, being the fourth installment of the franchise, garnered the lowest ratings among them all. Critics gave it a mere 28%, while audiences were equally unimpressed at 35%. Despite these poor reviews, “The Final Destination” managed to secure the biggest franchise debut before “Final Destination Bloodlines” premiered, raking in $27.4 million domestically.
Final Destination Bloodlines Is a Resounding Success
Despite the horror series being highly successful, it didn’t receive the highest praise from critics. The initial five movies often failed to garner consensus between critics and viewers, with only two exceptions: the original Final Destination (2000) which earned an audience approval rating of 68%, and Final Destination 5 (2011) that managed a “fresh” score of 63%. However, Final Destination Bloodlines bucked this trend.
Initially, the movie garnered a staggering 93% rating, and surprisingly enough, it maintained an equally thrilling 92% score after further feedback was considered. This puts the sixth entry on the list at an impressive 88% approval rating on the Popcornmeter. To add to its accolades, the film proudly displays both the Certified Fresh and Verified Hot badges.
I can’t help but be thrilled about the incredible success of “Final Destination: Bloodlines.” Smashing previous records, it raked in an astounding $51 million during its domestic debut weekend alone, and a staggering total of $102 million over three days. To date, the movie has grossed an impressive $153.5 million, all while keeping audiences captivated on the big screen. It’s currently holding strong at third place in box office rankings, trailing only two fresh releases. Truly a testament to its appeal and quality!
Right now, you can catch “Final Destination Bloodlines” in cinemas, and the initial five movies of the series can be streamed on Max.
