This week, the major event for movie studios and theaters, known as CinemaCon, is still thriving with a multitude of announcements from leading studios such as Sony Pictures, Lionsgate, and Warner Bros. For instance, Sony Pictures offered fresh insights on eagerly awaited films like “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse“. Meanwhile, Lionsgate unveiled a series of thrilling updates regarding the world of “John Wick“, including an animated prequel and the fifth installment in the series. Warner Bros., on the other hand, fulfilled their promise of new Superman news and also revealed chilling new footage for the upcoming sixth film in the supernatural horror franchise, “Final Destination Bloodlines“.
Richard Brener, the President & Chief Creative Officer of New Line Cinema, addressed the crowd at CinemaCon about the upcoming film Final Destination Bloodlines. In a playful manner, he hinted, “I’ll see you at the Oscars,” which is a humorous suggestion considering that films in the horror genre, including those as unconventional and visually gruesome like the Final Destination series, rarely receive recognition. The scene displayed during the convention, depicting a gory hospital death, certainly explains why this might be the case.
The video primarily focuses on two siblings in a medical facility, portrayed as being under a fatal curse and desperately seeking a means to evade death. A somber scene unfolds where they contemplate the idea of taking the life of a newborn infant, but ultimately opt for using one brother’s severe peanut allergy to induce near-death conditions. Unfortunately, their plan takes a grim and gruesome turn.
‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Returns to the Camp and Gore of the Original Films
In this scene, the two brothers find themselves in a series of unexpected situations that build suspense and keep viewers guessing. A humorous moment occurs when they struggle to retrieve a jammed peanut buttercup from a vending machine, leading one brother to shatter the machine’s glass. This action seems harmless at the time, but it sets off a metal coil (hopefully that won’t cause any problems later, doesn’t it?). The brothers then make a hasty decision to enter an MRI room in an attempt to induce an allergic reaction, oblivious to the fact that they have activated the machine and its magnetic force is gradually growing stronger.
As one sibling suffers an allergic response, another who carries an EpiPen tragically meets a gruesome fate. The force of the MRI machinery gradually detaches his body piercings. This is followed by a wheelchair hitting him, causing him to be pulled into a machine crevice and ultimately crushed to death. Meanwhile, the other brother manages to administer the EpiPen at the right moment, but viewers may falsely believe he’s now safe. Sadly, a loose metal coil from the vending machine shoots towards the MRI, fatally piercing his skull instead.
According to CinemaCon viewers, the footage is a delightful blend of extravagant, intricate action sequences that send shivers down your spine with their horror and suspense. From what we’ve seen so far, directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein have remained faithful to the elements that made the original movies such an exciting watch. Fans can anticipate a generous dose of blood-curdling moments and over-the-top fun when the film hits theaters this summer.
