As a cinephile who grew up in the ’90s, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of a Little Giants reunion! Devon Sawa has been a staple of many of our childhood memories, from his role as Josh in Casper to his memorable performances in horror classics like Idle Hands and Final Destination. The idea of seeing these beloved actors reunite on the big screen after all these years is truly heartwarming.
Devon Sawa, famous for his heartthrob roles in ’90s horror classics such as ‘Idle Hands’ and ‘Final Destination’, has hinted that many of his co-stars from the family sports comedy ‘Little Giants’ are keen for a reunion. Given the large cast in this film, it won’t be an easy feat to gather everyone back together after so many years, but it seems like Sawa is putting in a lot of effort to make it possible.
Sawa turned to the platform, once known as Twitter, to initiate a campaign aimed at reuniting the cast of the 1994 film, a cherished family comedy. His post hints that he’s been in touch with his fellow actors from the movie, and even references the American Cinematheque account to kick-start a Q&A session. Additionally, he drops an Easter Egg related to the movie “Little Giants” which some may pick up on.
“I’ve 80% of the cast of Little Giants in my DMs talking about a 30 year reunion. Hey @am_cinematheque would you be interested in doing a screening & Q&A? I did one in NZ for a different film & it was pretty cool. Brought back so many memories. Annexation of Puerto Rico anyone?”
A while after that, Sawa shared the initial post again with an updated figure of 85% of the cast from “Little Giants” potentially joining the reunion. Given Rick Moranis played a significant role in the movie and hasn’t been seen much in Hollywood for years, it’s possible that the remaining 15% could include him – perhaps even hinting at his involvement in the reunion. In any case, it seems Sawa’s proposal has piqued the interest of the American Cinematheque, who asked Sawa to contact them at hello@americancinematheque.com for more information.
Under the guidance of director Duwayne Robert Dunham and production by Amblin Entertainment, Little Giants narrates the tale of brothers Danny and Kevin O’Shea who lead Pee-Wee Football teams with starkly contrasting styles. Kevin’s team, the Pee-Wee Cowboys, embodies traditional masculinity, while Danny’s daughter gets removed from their roster due to being a girl. Determined to show Kevin and the Cowboys that they are formidable rivals, Becky motivates her father to create another team.
This movie boasts a star-studded cast including Rick Moranis, Ed O’Neill, Devon Sawa, Shawna Waldron, Mary Ellen Trainor, Todd Bosley, and Brian Haley, with some notable appearances by football icons like John Madden, Steve Emtman, Bruce Smith, Emmitt Smith, and Tim Brown. This sports comedy has become a cherished classic for many people of a specific age group who would undoubtedly be thrilled to see the cast reunite after so many years.
Devon Sawa’s Quiet Resurgence
In the ’90s, I graced the silver screen with roles in movies such as Casper, Little Giants, Wild America, and Final Destination. However, the limelight seemed to fade for a while after that, with brief appearances in lesser-known films failing to recapture my days as a teen idol. But over the past decade, I’ve been making a quiet comeback, delivering impressive performances in some captivating projects, and it feels great to be back on track.
While he’s stayed away from big Hollywood roles, Sawa navigates the current part of his career by picking the roles he wants and not those he’s necessarily “supposed” to do as a former heartthrob. He’s not looking for the same glory he once had as a teenage star, and is instead seeking out captivating stories. His performance in the thriller Hunter Hunter is excellent, with the movie itself also being met with critical acclaim. As well as Hunter Hunter, roles in the likes of Final Destination, Idle Hands, The Exorcism of Molly Hartley, Black Friday, and the Chucky TV series demonstrate that, perhaps, Sawa was always destined for the horror genre rather than the teen heartthrob role.
