Final Moment

In contrast to the previous Downton Abbey movie titled “A New Era”, the upcoming third film and concluding chapter in the series clearly signals the end of an era. Titled “Downton Abbey: The Final Chapter”, this film is set to hit theaters on Sep. 12, 2025, promising a reunion with beloved characters like Joanne Froggatt who has played Anna Bates (née Smith) since the start. Notably, Froggatt is currently appearing in the Paramount+ series “MobLand” as Jan, a character trying to maintain some sense of normality despite her husband Harry (Tom Hardy) being a menacing enforcer for a criminal clan. In an interview with MovieWeb, Froggatt discussed both the show and Downton Abbey: The Final Chapter.

15 years since we began filming the initial season, this is now the third and concluding movie. Therefore, it was incredibly emotional as she shared with MovieWeb.

On the final day of filming, it felt particularly significant. Many people, even Michelle [Dockery], who weren’t part of that day’s shooting, dropped by, creating a unique atmosphere. Interestingly, it was just myself and Brendan [Coyle] who captured the last scene on set, making it all the more memorable. The crowd gathered and cheered us on, giving each other heartfelt embraces, and reminiscing about the 15 years we had spent together on this project.

Froggatt expressed, “It’s fantastic, truly enchanting,” he said. “You don’t get to experience something like this too frequently within our profession. Sharing it with such an exceptional group of individuals has made it incredibly unique and meaningful. It holds a special place in my heart, and I will always cherish the memories from this time.

Michelle Dockery Agrees It’s a Special ‘Grand Finale

Previously this year, MovieWeb had an interview with Michelle Dockery, a prominent actor from “Downton Abbey.” As Lady Mary Talbot (originally a Crawley), Dockery has been part of the series since its inception. Dockery expressed her amazement by saying, “Initially, just making one film was an amazing accomplishment for us. Now, looking back, we’ve completed a series and three movies – something we never thought would happen.

Returning to this place felt just as I expected – a warm embrace of family, where we share an unbreakable bond and a delightful ambiance. Rarely does one get the chance to revisit something frequently in a career, but knowing that this might be the final time added a unique twist. It made me cherish each moment even more, savoring it as much as I could. This place is like a second home for me, and its memories will last an eternity.

The final installment of “Downton Abbey,” titled “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale,” will be released in theaters on September 12, 2025, courtesy of Focus Features.
