Last night, another fire erupted in Los Angeles, putting the famous Hollywood Bowl at risk. As a gamer, it’s worrying to see such incidents threatening places I love and often visit virtually or otherwise.
5:30 p.m. saw a blaze erupt in Runyon Canyon, Hollywood Hills, which came to be known as the Sunset Fire. This rapidly spreading fire is located near Hollywood Boulevard and the renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame. Notable Los Angeles landmarks and tourist attractions such as the Magic Castle, the exclusive magicians’ club; TCL Chinese Theatre; El Capitan Theatre; Madame Tussauds Wax Museum; Ovation Hollywood; and the Bowl are also in close proximity to this fire.
Heading further along Hollywood Boulevard, you’ll come across the Pantages Theatre. Meanwhile, the Capitol Records building can be found on Vine Street within Hollywood itself.
Runyon Canyon Park is well-known for being a favorite spot for hiking, and you might just spot some famous celebrities there. When the weather is clear, it provides breathtaking panoramic vistas extending from Catalina Island to the Santa Monica Mountain range.
On Wednesday evening at around 6 pm, an evacuation order was issued for the region spanning from Laurel Canyon Boulevard in the west to the 101 Freeway in the east, and from Mulholland Drive in the north to Hollywood Boulevard in the south. By 6 pm, at least 10 acres were ablaze.
Fires ignited in Pacific Palisades on Tuesday morn, leading to the evacuation of over 30,000 residents and consuming approximately 15,800 acres thus far. Firefighters are simultaneously combating other flames, such as the Eaton, Hurst, Lidia, and Woodley fires across different regions within Los Angeles County.
Tragically, five individuals have lost their lives, and over a thousand buildings have been demolished. Notably, the residences of several well-known celebrities were among those destroyed. These include Billy Crystal, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, James Woods, Diane Warren, Cameron Mathison, and Ricki Lake.
The Hollywood Bowl first opened its doors in 1929, becoming one of Los Angeles’ most renowned open-air performance spaces. Its distinctive bandstand with concentric arches has played host to many legendary artists such as the Beatles, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald and numerous others.
