Fire Country: We Already Know Who Died In The Season 3 Finale (And It’s A Huge Mistake)

This piece discusses plot points from episodes 19 and 20 of Fire Country‘s third season, titled “A Change in the Wind” and “I’d Do It Again”, respectively. Additionally, we delve into possible hints about Season 4.

If a season finale of “Fire Country” doesn’t leave viewers on edge with a significant cliffhanger, then something isn’t right! And Season 3 is no exception to this pattern. The last scenes show Vince Leone (Billy Burke), his wife Sharon (Diane Farr), and Vince’s father Walter (Jeff Fahey) fighting to escape a memory care facility that’s burning down due to the Zabel Ridge wildfire. Unfortunately, they are all trapped inside when the roof caves in, leaving Bode Leone (Max Thieriot) with a devastating sight as three of his most cherished people hang in the balance of life and death. For those who can hardly wait for Season 4, it appears that the only casualty of the fire has already been identified: According to Deadline sources, “Fire Country” fans may have to bid farewell to Vince.

If Vince perishes in the opening episode of Season 4, it would be a questionable decision by the writing staff. He serves as the cornerstone for his family and fire station, and his relationship with Sharon is undeniably the most captivating in “Fire Country”. Killing off such a crucial character might serve to demonstrate that anything can happen, thereby keeping viewers on edge, but it could potentially harm the show’s longevity. For those fans who are disheartened by this potential plot development, there is a glimmer of hope – the show’s top brass have remained tight-lipped about whether Vince will indeed be the one to meet his end in Season 4, so as of now, nothing is set in stone.

Fire Country showrunners want to keep everyone guessing about Vince’s fate

Back in April 2025, I had the privilege of chatting exclusively with the brilliant minds behind “Fire Country”. When Deadline asked them about the rumors surrounding Billy Burke’s departure, they wisely chose not to reveal the resolution of Season 3’s cliffhanger. However, our showrunner and executive producer, Tia Napolitano, did hint at some heart-wrenching repercussions. “We won’t confirm who we might be parting ways with,” she shared, “but there will undoubtedly be a profound loss for those who remain in our on-screen family.” She then ominously warned, “The people of Edgewater and Station 42 are bracing themselves for a seismic shock.

The deadline raised questions regarding rumors that “Fire Country” was required to save funds, allegedly suggesting this character’s death as a cost-cutting measure. However, co-creator and executive producer Joan Rater refuted this claim, stating emphatically, “No, our intention is to be captivating storytellers.” Later in the interview, Napolitano disclosed that they had always been aware that someone wouldn’t survive the fire. Nevertheless, they didn’t decide on the specific character until later in the process. As Napolitano explained, “We discussed various possibilities in the writers’ room at the start, but our aim was consistently to conclude the season dramatically. We also sought to preserve the authenticity that first responders face perilous jobs with life-or-death consequences.

Will viewers find this twist intriguing or off-putting? Only time will tell when Season 4 airs, as we’ll see then whether the Leones survive the Zabel Ridge fire and carry on with their lives.
