An exclusive backstage photo unveiled DC Studios’ initial peek at Milly Alcock portraying Supergirl. This sneak peek was distributed during the expected launch year of Superman (2025). The image provides a close-up view of her costume before her standalone appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
BTS photo reveals Milly Alcock’s Supergirl in costume on Superman set
The photos, initially posted by our department colleague Lindsay McAllister on Instagram, depict Alcock working on set at the Fortress of Solitude. These are the locations where Kara Zor-El’s character from Superman makes a brief appearance in his final scene. Afterward, McAllister removed the original post.
Alcock’s appearance in the film marks the debut of live-action DC movies where Superman and Supergirl co-star, with a scene showing an obviously drunk Kara coming to fetch Krypto. This moment serves as the initial on-screen encounter between the Kryptonian relatives within the new DC Universe.
In the upcoming “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” movie, slated for release on June 26, 2026, Alcock will be taking the lead role. From behind-the-scenes photos, it’s evident that her costume resembles David Corenswet’s Superman suit quite closely. This design choice aims to create a harmonious Kryptonian appearance within the DCU.
Previously, James Gunn has confirmed that his adaptation of Supergirl, Alcock’s portrayal, is rooted in the “Woman of Tomorrow” comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Gunn characterizes this version of Kara as decidedly tougher, highlighting the significant differences in their upbringing compared to Superman.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, Gunn explained the contrast between Superman, who was sent to Earth as an infant and brought up by caring parents, compared to Supergirl, who was raised on a distant planet and witnessed the deaths of those around her.
Filming for Supergirl is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with Craig Gillespie directing and Ana Nogueira penning the script. Alcock stars alongside Matthias Schoenaerts in the roles of Krem from the Yellow Hills and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle. The character’s introduction in Superman sets up her standalone movie coming out next year.
