As a hardcore Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fan with years of investment in the intricate web of stories and characters, I can’t help but be thrilled about Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the franchise. Yet, it’s essential not to overlook the other exciting projects on the horizon, such as next year’s Thunderbolts.
Marvel Cinemic Universe fans remain thrilled by Robert Downey Jr’s confirmation of his return to the franchise, but let’s not forget about other Marvel films in the works. At Comic-Con, attendees caught glimpses of upcoming movies like “Thunderbolts” due out next year. Florence Pugh‘s heartfelt discussion about the new team-up film and her costar David Harbour leaves us even more eager for their collaboration. (*Note: Thunderbolts is a confirmed Marvel movie, but its title might be subject to change)
At San Diego Comic-Con, Florence Pugh shared with TopMob about her and David Harbour’s connection both on and off-screen in “Black Widow.” In the movie, their characters formed a surrogate family. Interestingly, this bond extended to the actors themselves. During an interview, Pugh spoke fondly of their reunion for “Thunderbolts” and the strong friendship that has developed between them. She became emotional while reflecting on Harbour’s support during filming. You can read her heartfelt comments from Instagram below.

Listening to Florence Pugh discuss her connection with David Harbour is truly heartwarming. It seems that they formed a strong bond during the filming of “Black Widow,” leading them to explore possibilities for their characters’ future collaborations.
During the production of “Black Widow,” the two actors harbored hopes of reprising their roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, they weren’t certain when or if their return would occur, let alone if it would be as a duo. Creating this film seemed to hold great significance for them individually. Pugh expresses admiration not only for Harbour’s acting abilities but also for him as an individual.
In the film “Black Widow,” the narrative was primarily focused on developing Scarlett Johansson’s character, Natasha, and her relationships with Yelena and the Red Guardian. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, there wasn’t enough exploration of the Red Guardian’s relationship with his other daughter. It appears that this will be addressed in “Thunderbolts,” a future film, making Florence Pugh excited for the opportunity.
The upcoming Marvel film, “Thunderbolts,” can be seen as a continuation or spin-off from “Black Widow” with several characters making an appearance. In this new project, Florence Pugh reprises her role as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Red Guardian, and Olga Kurylenko plays Taskmaster. These actors join Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), and Hannah John-Kaman (Ghost) to form the team. A sneak peek of the film was unveiled at Comic-Con, while the general public must wait for more information on the plot.
In the year 2024, we were treated to a single Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, which turned out to be a massive success – none other than “Deadpool with Wolverine.” Looking ahead to 2025, there are three MCU films on the schedule. While much anticipation surrounds “Fantastic Four,” one of the most emotionally resonant new MCU movies could be found among the others.
