As a gamer who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I see Florence Pugh rocking that bold pink gown at the premiere of “We Live In Time“. It reminds me of those iconic Barbie dolls we used to play with, their vibrant pink hues symbolizing femininity and power.
2023 was the year that Barbie-inspired fashion, or “Barbiecore,” dominated popular culture. Following the success of Greta Gerwig’s movie Barbie, a trend of bright pink clothing and accessories became prevalent. Notably, Margot Robbie donned numerous pink outfits and Barbie-themed ensembles during her press tour for various projects. However, as Brat Summer green took over in 2024, the spotlight on Barbiecore faded. Yet, Florence Pugh appears to be reigniting the trend, having worn a stunning pink gown while promoting her new film, We Live In Time.
The much-awaited film “We Live In Time,” slated for release in 2024, has stirred excitement. Its emotional trailer offers a glimpse into the romance drama featuring Pugh and Andrew Garfield. The narrative revolves around a couple whose lives are impacted significantly by a heart-wrenching diagnosis. Debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival, both actors graced the event. While Garfield continued to charm, it was Pugh who stole the spotlight. As reported by People, she donned a captivating pink satin ballgown designed by Tamara Ralph, featuring a large black bow on the bodice. Check out the full ensemble below:
Currently, Pugh is recognized for her striking fashion instances, and she’s never been hesitant about embracing the color pink. Two years back, she caused a stir on the internet with her see-through fuchsia Valentino gown. Moreover, she donned the hue once more in a bodysuit style for a music event. To this day, I’m still captivated by her pastel pink chain dress from Valentino that she wore during Paris Fashion Week.
Perhaps I could rephrase that as follows: While Robbie garnered a lot of attention with her signature Barbiecore looks during the press tours, Pugh has consistently embraced the color pink from the start, and I must admit, it suits her wonderfully.
Emphasizing the bright color is another effective method to highlight the lesser-known film as well. Recently, Pugh has been exploring large-scale productions such as “Oppenheimer,” “Dune: Part 2,” and “Black Widow.” Interestingly, she is also part of Marvel’s upcoming project, “Thunderbolts,” scheduled for release in April. However, Pugh hasn’t shied away from revisiting her independent film roots with this production by John Crowley. Two eye-catching fashion moments by Pugh in this movie could greatly enhance its promotional efforts.
After watching the actress from Little Women opt for pink once more, it definitely stirs up memories of the Barbiecore trend that was so popular last summer. To be clear, I’ve enjoyed the vibrant greens that have been prevalent this summer, and the black mesh styles that have dominated fashion this year are truly captivating as well.
However, there’s something about a bright pink that’s so timelessly feminine and stands out. And I love it! I hope this Pugh look inspires others to return to Barbiecore, even as we enter autumn. I think there’s certainly a way to make pink a fall color.
In the upcoming movie “We Live In Time,” scheduled for release on October 11, you’ll find Florence Pugh sharing screen time with Andrew Garfield. This film has been creating quite a stir at film festivals, so do remember to catch it in theaters once you get a chance!
