Flos Gives its "Snoopy" Lamp a Blue Makeover

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating the digital world, I can attest that sometimes, the most captivating moments come not from pixels and polygons, but from the real-world objects that grace our spaces. Enter the iconic Flos “Snoopy” lamp, a design icon that has illuminated homes since the 60s.

As a gamer, I bet you haven’t heard of Flos’ “Snoopy” lamp by name, but trust me, once you see it, you won’t forget it. This iconic piece has been gracing design-focused spaces globally since the 60s and is now synonymous with impeccable taste. And guess what? It’s coming in a fresh new color!

2024 will see an update for the Snoopy lamp with a new navy blue hue added to its color palette. This now joins the previously released options in orange, green, and black.

Beyond its hue, I’m captivated by the authentic charm of this lamp, mirroring the intricate details initially envisioned by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni back in 1967. Among these elements is its iconic shape, reminiscent of a beloved cartoon character, which also gave rise to its distinctive name.

The new color of this item is reminiscent of an earlier design called “Sciuko”, created by the Castiglioni brothers. When dealing with historically significant objects designed by renowned masters, Flos carefully introduces new colors, drawing from archival materials for guidance. For the Snoopy collection, vibrant shades were chosen that drew inspiration from the Sciuko lamp, a versatile light designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1966, which gained immense popularity due to its rich color spectrum.

Similar to previous versions, the blue Snoopy lamp boasts a marble base, a thick glass disc that disperses light, and an enameled aluminum shade with three cooling vents. Despite its seemingly uneven size, the Snoopy lamp is incredibly stable due to the optimal balance of its components’ weights. Its slanted design focuses the light beam primarily on the work surface, with minimal illumination on the other side. This lighting approach was quite revolutionary for its time and continues to be a highly valued innovative feature. (Flos statement)

Check out the Snoopy lamp, priced around €1,280 or approximately $1,396 USD, displayed in the gallery above for a detailed view. To learn more about this unique piece, visit the Flos website.
