As a seasoned festival-goer and avid music enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a pang of envy towards Debby Friday. Here’s a woman who’s living my dream: nine stops across Europe, soaking up the vibrant energy of different cultures, all while performing her heart out on some of the most prestigious stages.
Over the last weekend of August, I find myself at Lost Village – the ultimate music festival that brings us all together as we say our goodbyes to summer. But for me, it’s not the end, just the halfway point of my nine-city European tour! As I prepare for my show, I team up with Defender to reveal my tried-and-true festival routine in an exclusive feature on Day in the Life.
On Friday morning, after a lengthy journey in the new Defender 110 Plug-in Hybrid, she started her day early, seeking refreshment and renewal. Slipping into her preferred black ensemble consisting of a coord set, bomber jacket, and leather boots, she ventured out to the tea ceremony – one of many personalized experiences offered at the Energy Garden. Accompanied by fellow early birds at the festival, the artist joined the shaman guiding the activity inside the elaborately adorned teepee. They shared encouraging words before being sprinkled with invigorating facial mist.
At high noon, I filled up on a tasty yet nutritious meal whipped up by Defender’s very own onsite eatery, leaving me energized and ready for more gaming adventures. Not long after, the rhythm started pulsating across the grounds. From the cozy Airbase stage to the central Burial Ground hosting heavyweights like Floating Points and SBTRKT, beats were echoing from every nook and cranny of the site, luring me towards unexplored sonic territories.
Before her evening performance, Debby explored Defender’s Outpost area to familiarize herself with the stage. To align with the rugged and abandoned atmosphere of the festival, The Outpost was designed as a forgotten zoo, incorporating elements of Defender’s safari legacy through maps and artifacts. After a brief scout, she returned to prepare for her main act, grabbing some necessary items from her car along the way.
Instead of sticking with my usual practical attire during the day, I switched things up for a dramatic entrance, sporting a vibrant red frilled top, metallic shorts, and silver boots – a look that fans instantly associate with me. After an electrifying DJ set by Ella Knight, I poured the classic Debby Friday vibe into my performance, packing my hour-long set with energetic pop-punk fusion tunes like “FATAL,” “Runnin,'” and the crowd’s favorite, “To The Dancefloor.” As the show came to an end, I joined the enthusiastic audience to catch Yīn Yīn and other closing acts of the night. Finally, I hopped into my 4×4 for the next festival on the itinerary.
