As a seasoned Disney enthusiast and someone who’s spent countless hours riding Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom, I must say, the news about its replacement with an Indiana Jones attraction in 2026 has me both heartbroken and exhilarated. While it’s sad to see an old friend go, the thought of a new Indy adventure is enough to make my inner adventurer do a triumphant roll!
This year’s D23 Expo was an enjoyable event for any Disney World enthusiast, and the excitement continues as we anticipate numerous new attractions set to debut at Disney World in the coming years. However, it’s important to note that alongside these exciting new additions, some older rides and shows may be closing. Recently, fans have experienced several closures at Disney World, with the most notable being the announcement that Muppet*Vision 3D would indeed be shutting down. Now, we have more news regarding another attraction’s closure, but there is also some positive news to share.
At Magic Kingdom, America’s rivers are being swapped for car-themed attractions, Monsters Inc. territory is supplanting the Muppet Courtyard, and we now have a better understanding of Dinoland U.S.A.’s transformation into Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Previously, fans knew that their beloved Dinosaur ride would be shutting down, but the exact timeline was uncertain. However, there is some positive news: Disney has confirmed that the dino attraction will not be closing in 2025.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Won’t Close Dinosaur Until 2026
Today, Disney World shared an update detailing what visitors can look forward to at their resort in 2025. Highlights include the revamped Test Track, along with fresh lounges at both Epcot and Magic Kingdom. Moreover, they excitedly mentioned that if you’re a fan of Dinosaur, 2025 is your chance to see it before it disappears! This implies that Dinosaur will continue operating in 2025, possibly closing the following year. Given these circumstances, fans who wish to revisit this popular ride have over a year to make their plans.
At D23 last August, Disney Parks chairman Josh D’Amaro announced that the metamorphosis of Dinoland U.S.A. into the new Tropical Americas land would take place in stages, hinting that Dinosaur was one of the final elements to be changed, although this didn’t provide a clear picture of what that entailed. The construction at Animal Kingdom is scheduled to commence early in 2025; however, it appears that it will be about a year later before the renovation work reaches the Dinosaur attraction.
Indiana Jones Is Coming To Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Although it’s unfortunate to see Dinosaur go, there’s no denying that the new attraction set to take its place is quite thrilling. Instead of dinosaurs, you’ll soon find yourself in the midst of an Indiana Jones adventure, as the old Dinosaur spot gets transformed! Even though the new ride will employ the same vehicle and track technology as the Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland, we’ve been informed that it will feature a unique storyline. However, some parts of the existing infrastructure may still be utilized in its creation.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Dinosaur is a popular opening day attraction. Although the ride might seem a bit dated, it holds dear memories for many people throughout the years. With a whole year ahead to visit, these individuals have ample time to organize a trip to Disney World to bid farewell to this beloved attraction.
