As a seasoned gamer with over three decades under my belt, I can say that Starfield was one of the most anticipated releases in recent memory. After waiting what felt like an eternity, it was disheartening to see it fall short of expectations. Don’t get me wrong – it’s a good game, but not great.
Story Highlights
- Starfield was one of the most hyped video game releases of 2023, launching to mixed reception.
- An ex-Bethesda designer has remarked on the potential of Starfield 2, praising its potential quality.
- The release of Starfield has presumably taught Bethesda some much-needed lessons.
After a prolonged wait that had everyone on tenterhooks, numerous fans eagerly anticipated Starfield’s launch, but were left disappointed as the RPG didn’t meet expectations across various aspects. While it’s still a decent game, it doesn’t quite reach the level of excellence we hoped for.
As per Bruce Nesmith, Bethesda’s ex-designer who has contributed to several Fallout games and was the lead designer for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, you should be excited about Starfield 2 as he describes it as “an extraordinary game.” However, I wonder if we’ll both still be here by then.
As an ardent fan, I can’t contain my excitement for Starfield 2! I truly believe it’s going to raise the bar with its impressive potential. It seems poised to address many concerns fans have been voicing – ‘We’re almost there, but we’re still missing something.’ With its innovative approach, it promises to build upon existing elements and introduce a wealth of new features, addressing and improving upon those lingering issues.
Essentially, Bruce is pointing out that Bethesda likely gained valuable insights from the release of Starfield, their largest debut ever, surpassing 6 million players. However, the space RPG didn’t meet its initial high expectations in terms of longevity, which has been disappointing primarily.
To put it simply, Bruce believes that the initial game in the series often serves as a significant milestone, laying the foundation for subsequent versions to grow and become better.
Initial installments of many IPs like Dragon Age and Assassin’s Creed often demonstrate moments of greatness alongside elements that don’t resonate with everyone. They may not initially capture widespread appeal as effectively. However, it is often through subsequent versions of the game that the full potential and richness are truly realized.
Before Starfield 2, Bethesda Will Push Its Line-Up Of Other Projects
With each passing year, it seems increasingly likely that Starfield could fade into memory, given that Bethesda enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the behemoth known as The Elder Scrolls 6, with no sign of its release in the immediate future.
It’s been nearly a decade since the last Fallout game was released, and it seems probable that the studio may lean towards developing the next major Fallout title before they delve into working on Starfield.
What do you think of Bruce’s remarks? Let me know in the comments ahead.
