Collaboratively, Fragment Design and Casio have created a unique version of the Casiotone CT-S1 electronic keyboard. Notable in Casio’s ’80s electronic music lineup, this reissued model boasts an enhanced aesthetic with a striking houndstooth pattern on its speakers and distinctive Fragment Design logos scattered throughout.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice the unique charm of this speaker-keyboard hybrid. The keyboard, adorned in a classic black-and-white motif, boasts a shared branding text on its right side and the distinctive Fragment’s double lightning bolt emblem right above the C8 key. Unlike the original Casiotone with its light grey base and multicolored control system, this one stands out with all its tuning knobs in sleek black, adding a refreshing twist to the design.
Technologically speaking, the Fragment Design x Casiotone CT-S1 features 12 sounds reminiscent of Casio’s classic electronic instruments, plus 10 advanced tones derived from the keyboard’s contemporary AiX sound generator. This device is equipped with a horizontal bass reflex system for delivering robust and enveloping audio.
Fragment Design, undoubtedly, has a history of teaming up for musical instrument projects. For instance, in December, they partnered with Fender on a special edition Telecaster guitar, and previously, their design principles have been applied to acoustic guitars too.
The collaboration between Fragment Design and Casiotone CT-S1 is scheduled to be available for purchase starting January 16th, both at Hiroshi Fujiwara’s “Various Artists” store and on the VA website. The price will be approximately $453 USD or ¥71,500 JPY.
