Frank Grillo Jokes About Almost Being Fired By Marvel For Revealing Spoilers, But Is He Actually Returning?

As a long-time Marvel fan and avid gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the vast and intricate world of superheroes, I find myself both amused and sympathetic towards Frank Grillo‘s plight. The man is no stranger to secrecy and deception, having portrayed a HYDRA agent in the MCU, but it seems that he struggles with keeping Marvel’s secrets just as much as his on-screen characters do!

Fans of superheroes are well aware that the Marvel Cinematic Universe regularly delivers fresh content, whether it’s in cinemas or through a Disney+ subscription. While fans speculate on what might occur in future Marvel films, actors must maintain the shared universe’s secrets and adhere to Marvel’s strict security measures. Recently, Frank Grillo joked about almost getting fired by Marvel for leaking spoilers, but is it true that he will reprise his role as Crossbones?

Fans who have followed Marvel movies over time got to witness Frank Grillo’s intriguing journey in the MCU. Starting off as Brock Rumlow in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” it was eventually disclosed that he was actually a HYDRA agent. Despite apparently meeting his end during the opening fight of “Civil War,” he astounded viewers by resurfacing during the Time Heist scene in “Endgame.” In an interview with ComicBook, the 59-year-old actor reminisced about his habit of revealing Marvel spoilers, expressing:

It seems I’m in a situation where I can’t say anything without facing potential consequences. So, I find myself having to remain silent and avoid getting involved. It’s not easy for me, and I’ve had my fair share of close calls while working with Marvel – they almost let me go 36 times due to my honesty. I don’t like lying, but I tend to be a bit too forthright sometimes, which has resulted in warnings from those in charge.

Poor soul, the task of working on films is already tough, but adding to that is the struggle of guarding secrets when you’re part of a significant movie franchise like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). With fans being so enthusiastic about the MCU, maintaining secrecy can be quite challenging for those inhabiting the same universe.

It’s largely unclear when and under what circumstances Marvel came close to dismissing Grillo, but he revealed his part in Avengers: Endgame before the movie had even been given its official title. Since the unexpected return of a deceased character was set in the past, it’s safe to assume that such an early disclosure likely didn’t sit well with the studio.

Is there a chance that Frank Grillo will portray Crossbones in the future, given that in the primary storyline, he was killed after attempting to detonate a suicide bomb alongside Captain America? With time travel and the multiverse being factors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it appears that virtually anything could happen.

It seems that Grillo has been advised by the studio to not reveal too much information, similar to other actors like Tom Holland who have a habit of inadvertently exposing spoilers. Additionally, Mark Ruffalo has even disclosed the ending of Infinity War and live-streamed the audio for Thor: Ragnarok accidentally.

Upcoming in theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, is the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film titled “Captain America: New World Order“. It’s plausible that Grillo could make an appearance there. In the meantime, keep an eye on the movie release dates for 2025 for further updates.
