‘Frankenstein’ Stars Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth Tease “Big, Mexican” Adaptation and Jacob Elordi’s “Heartbreaking” Monster

On Saturday evening, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth graced the stage at Netflix’s Tudum event, unveiling a sneak peek of their upcoming movie titled “Frankenstein.” During this special occasion, they shared some interesting insights about the Guillermo del Toro-led project.

The movie features Isaac in the role of scientist Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi portrays the monster born from Victor’s experiments, and Goth takes on the character of Victor’s fiancée Elizabeth Lavenza. Del Toro has expressed his deep-seated affection for Mary Shelley’s novel “Frankenstein”, a project he has aspired to bring to life for many years.

During the Tudum presentation, Isaac shared with The Hollywood Reporter that when del Toro initially proposed the idea, he wasn’t anticipating it. They were simply chatting, and after a lengthy discussion, del Toro looked at him and said, “I believe you should play my Victor Frankenstein.” I’m still in disbelief about it.

Isaac explained, “He promised to create a feast for me like an actor, and true to his word, he did so each day. I would arrive on set filled with anticipation, performing various intricate, expressive actions. He was more than just a colleague; he was my brother, guiding me through every step.

Previously, Del Toro mentioned that the project wouldn’t strictly fall under the horror genre. Instead, Isaac characterized it as “a large-scale, dark, luxurious, dramatic character piece from Mexico.” Goth further explained that the film is not only vast in scale but also deeply emotional and personal. It’s a story close to Del Toro’s heart since childhood, so viewers might be moved by the amount of emotion and personal touch it contains.

Although Elordi wasn’t physically present at the event, his character’s monster-like form momentarily surfaced in the fresh footage. Isaac found it heartrending to witness Elordi embodying this character for the first time, expressing that “he portrays such a delicate, beautiful, sorrowful, and enraged depiction of this creature.” Goth praised the team’s skill in crafting Elordi’s makeup, reminiscing about the challenging nature of the role, as he spent hours in the makeup chair, but it was all worthwhile because the final result was stunning.

Frankenstein will arrive on Netflix in November.
