As a 90s kid who grew up watching Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis on the silver screen, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the announcement of “Freakier Friday” sequel! The original film was a staple in my VHS collection, and the thought of revisiting these beloved characters is simply delightful.
Next year, movie theaters will be brimming with a wave of early 2000s nostalgia. Disney has scheduled releases for “Freaky Friday” and the live-action version of “Lilo & Stitch.
On May 23, 2025, the movie “Lilo & Stitch” is set to premiere in cinemas, facing competition from Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible 8.
On the eighth of August, 2025, I’ll be counting down the days for “Freakier Friday” to release! However, it seems Warner Bros. has another movie scheduled on that same day, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio under the direction of Paul Thomas Anderson.
In the upcoming movie titled Freakier Friday, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reprise their roles from the 2003 film Freaky Friday. The original story revolved around Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan), a mother-daughter duo who magically swapped bodies for a day, learning about each other’s struggles. In this new installment, directed by Nisha Ganatra, Anna is now a mother herself and on the verge of becoming a stepmother. The plot follows Tess and Anna as they grapple with the complexities of blending two families together, discovering that perhaps the same magical event might happen again.
Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao will reappear in the upcoming sequel. Additionally, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan will also join the cast for this new installment.
The upcoming film titled “Lilo & Stitch” is helmed by director Dean Fleischer Camp. This live-action, CGI blend serves as a continuation of the 2002 original, focusing on the bond between a girl resembling a human and an alien with canine characteristics. Maia Kealoha takes on the role of Lilo, while Chris Sanders, the original voice of Stitch, makes a return. At D23 in August, Disney unveiled a sneak peek at this new production.
