In the 1997 film, he played Ray Bronson, Julie James’ blue-collar fisherman boyfriend, with both actors previously reprising their roles in the 1998 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. According to Deadline, Prinze Jr. will reprise his role as Ray Bronson once more, nearly three decades later, appearing in Sony’s upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy movie.
The horror movie series kicked off in 1997 with a blockbuster slasher film that swiftly gained cult status. This initial film was adapted from Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel with the same title. The plot revolves around a gang of teenagers who believe they have killed a man by accident with their car and dispose of his body. Exactly a year later, on the anniversary of the incident, they are pursued by a hook-wielding murderer. The success of the first movie spawned a 1998 sequel titled “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which further unfolded the tales of Ray, Julie, and the vengeful fisherman.
2006 saw the launch of a direct-to-video movie titled “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,” with none of the original cast members reprising their roles. The franchise expanded into streaming platforms as well, with a Prime Video series featuring new actors and a novel plot. Both Prinze Jr. and Hewitt have been in talks for the sequel, but while Prinze Jr.’s participation has been confirmed, Hewitt has yet to publicly confirm her involvement. If she does, fans would be ecstatic to see their beloved stars acting together again.
The Star-Studded Team Behind the Slasher Sequel
It’s unclear if Sony’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” will be a traditional sequel or an expansion of the series, but the lineup of actors is looking strong, with both seasoned performers and promising newcomers confirming their involvement in the film. At first, Camila Mendes from Riverdale was set to play a major part, but unfortunately, she had to step down because of scheduling issues. There’s word that Chase Sui Wonders, who starred in Bodies Bodies Bodies, might take over her role instead. Despite the casting switch creating quite a stir, one fact remains: the fresh talents will undoubtedly inject a new energy into the series.
The next installment is set to be helmed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, recognized for her projects like Someone Great, Unpregnant, and Do Revenge. She also collaborated on the script for Thor: Love and Thunder with Taika Waititi. Robinson brings a wealth of expertise in creating compelling stories and adding her unique touch to a beloved series.
