On Saturday, international media extensively reported on the latest exchange of four Israeli soldiers, held hostage by Hamas since October 7, 2023, as part of a truce deal. In an unusual ceremony, Liri Albag, Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, and Naama Levy were handed over to the Red Cross after spending 477 days in captivity. This was done in exchange for the release of 200 Palestinian prisoners, a scene that has been repeated frequently in recent weeks.
Celebrating her newfound liberty, Albag was snapped from a helicopter, forming a heart gesture with her hands and sporting a shirt bearing the smiley-face emblem of Drew House, Justin Bieber’s clothing brand introduced in 2019. Ryan Good, one of the co-founders of Drew House, shared pictures of Albag’s reunion on Instagram, where she was seen donning a blue sweater adorned with the iconic smiley-face insignia.
The Hollywood Reporter contacted Good, who was thrilled upon learning about Albag’s release. He was glad that his role as the creative director for the brand could, in a small but symbolic way, contribute to this event. “From the very beginning, when I first sketched the logo and face in my notebook, we always imagined Drew House as a global emblem of love and joy,” Good said. “The photos of Liri truly reflect that. Those girls, who had endured great hardships, are now free and reunited with their families. To witness such a moment of pure love and joy after everything she’s been through, is poetically moving.
The second exchange (or swap) took place as per a truce agreement that started this month, marking a six-week phase of peace, instilling hope for the conclusion of the 15-month conflict. Three other captives – Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher – were released last weekend, coinciding with Israel’s release of 90 Palestinian detainees.
Gal Gadot, Mayim Bialik, and Gwyneth Paltrow were among several celebrities in Hollywood who expressed their reactions following the initial hostage releases that occurred on Sunday.
Doron, Romi, and Emily have returned home,” Gadot posted on social media. “Three families are now back together. We continue to keep faith for the 94 remaining hostages.
Bialik too participated in the festivities, posting on Instagram, “We won’t stop until they’re all back safe and sound.
Paltrow shared news of the hostages return and wrote on social media, “Let the healing begin.”
