Freedie Highmore And Keeley Hawes Team Up For Prime Video's The Assassin

As a long-time fan of intricate storytelling and captivating performances, I am absolutely thrilled about Freddie Highmore’s latest role in “The Assassin.” Having followed his career since his early days as the precocious young prodigy in “Finding Neverland,” it’s fascinating to see him tackle such a complex character as Edward.

Following the successful completion of his seven-season stint as Dr. Shaun Murphy on ABC’s medical drama, The Good Doctor, Freddie Highmore has landed another captivating role. He will be joining forces with Keeley Hawes, famous for her performances in popular series such as Bodyguard and Orphan Black: Echoes, in a heart-stopping international espionage thriller on Prime Video titled The Assassin.

As a cinema enthusiast, I’d put it this way: On a secluded Greek island, I, once a skilled assassin known as Julie, have found solace away from my deadly past. However, the unexpected arrival of my son, Edward, stirs up old memories. Struggling with his own identity, he is drawn into my world when an old enemy resurfaces, putting our relationship on the line. This thrilling six-episode series follows our desperate attempts to outwit this relentless assassin and protect our fragile bond.

On a secluded Greek island, formerly lethal assassin Julie (Hawes) has a tense encounter with her long-absent son Edward (Highmore), who’s come from England. With fresh data about his lineage stirring questions, Edward struggles to find an opportune moment to communicate with his evasive mother. However, when the chance arises, their conversation takes a perilous turn as Julie’s risky past resurfaces, compelling them to abandon the island and evade danger side by side.

As a cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that “The Assassin” is written by none other than Harry and Jack Williams, who have an impressive track record in British television with shows like “Hotel Babylon,” “Wild at Heart,” and “Call the Midwife.” They even created and produced the critically-acclaimed series of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, “Fleabag.” Their production company, Two Brothers Pictures, will be overseeing the production of “The Assassin” in collaboration with ZDF, our German co-production partner, All3Media International, and Stan in Australia. Notably, Sheridan Smith and Matthew Macfadyen, who are also involved behind the scenes as executive producers.

In the cast for “The Assassin,” we find a skilled group of actors, such as Gina Gershon, recognized from her work on “Riverdale” and “New Amsterdam”; Shalom Brune-Franklin, who shone in “Baby Reindeer” on Netflix; Jack Davenport, known for “The Morning Show” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”; and Alan Dale, whose performances in “Dynasty,” “Lost,” and “24” have earned him recognition. Additionally, Gerald Kyd (from “The Swarm”), Devon Terrell (of “Totally Completely Fine”), Richard Dormer (“Game of Thrones”), and David Dencik (“The Ipcress File”) will also be part of the star-studded cast.

Furthermore, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Hannah Blyth, the head of TV for Prime Video U.K., has openly shown her faith in the project, sharing her enthusiasm from the very start when “Harry and Jack presented their vision for The Assassin.” She is certain that the script will strike a chord with their audience, perfectly resonating with them. She further stated:

“This Assassin series guarantees an edge-of-your-seat experience, centered around a captivating mother-son bond. It’s filled with unexpected plot twists that promise to keep viewers glued throughout the entire journey. We eagerly anticipate our audience diving deep into this thrilling new saga.”

The film titled “The Assassin” has commenced shooting in Greece, with plans for its initial release in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
