French Woman Says AI Brad Pitt Scammed Her Out of $850K

A French woman says she was scammed out of her life savings by an AI Brad Pitt.

Anne, a 53-year-old woman, has disclosed that she lost $850,000 in a scam after thinking she was in a long-term relationship with a genuine Hollywood star. According to Men’s Journal, the deception started when she received messages from someone posing as Angelina Jolie’s mother, who claimed her son needed someone like Anne and maintained contact for over a year.

Initially, Anne admitted she thought it was unreal or absurd, but she confessed that she’s not familiar with social media and thus, didn’t fully grasp the situation unfolding around her. This was during a segment on Seven to Eight, broadcasted on French TV channel TF1 on a Sunday.

By leveraging AI technology to mimic the style of an actor from “Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood”, fraudsters sent customized images and messages, tricking a woman into thinking their scheme was genuine. Eventually, they manipulated her into transferring close to $1 million for a supposed kidney treatment. They fabricated a story that Pitt couldn’t access his bank accounts due to the high-profile nature of his divorce from Angelina Jolie, which added credibility to their ruse.

The woman reported by TF1 as dealing with mental health issues departed from her husband following the discovery of a fraudulent scheme. Later, upon viewing news stories about Ines de Ramon, who is Angelina Jolie’s real-life partner, she understood that she had been tricked.

As a gamer, I often ponder over this question: “Why have I been selected for causing such distress?” But let me clarify, I’ve always steered clear of hurting others. If they deserve any punishment, it would be the virtual kind, far from reality’s ‘hell’.

The report says Anne filed a police report over the scam.

Ever since the Sunday segment aired, the story has spread like wildfire online, sparking a flood of cyberbullying aimed at the victim. In response to the mounting criticism, TF1 journalist Harry Roselmack stepped forward on X to admit that the story had led to a torrent of harassment against the witness. Consequently, the network decided to pull the broadcast from all its platforms, as reported by The Guardian.
