From Horror to Action: ‘Bring Her Back’ Directors Tease Exciting Future Projects!

The upcoming live-action “Street Fighter” movie by Legendary appears to be progressing, as rumors suggest that Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and WWE star Roman Reigns are being considered for lead roles in this video game adaptation. Kitao Sakurai (“Bad Trip”) is set to direct, but previously, Danny and Michael Philippou were attached to the project. The directors of “Talk to Me” and “Bring Her Back” have recently shared details about their potential vision for the film and why they chose to leave it.

Discussing with George Edelman from MovieWeb about their upcoming horror movie, the conversation drifted towards the remake of Street Fighter. Although Universal released a film adaptation based on Capcom’s video game in 1994, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raúl Juliá, Legendary gained the rights in 2023 and have been working tirelessly to bring a new version to life. The success of their 2022 film Talk to Me undoubtedly boosted their profile, eventually landing them the director’s role for Street Fighter. Regrettably, scheduling conflicts prevented them from moving forward with the project, despite presenting captivating concepts to the studio.

We couldn’t wait for Street Fighter! We were deeply immersed in its production, designing spectacular scenes. These incredible, fantastic scenes were made possible due to the resources at our disposal. Everything we proposed to Legendary, like, “This is what we envision,” they would approve immediately. They supported our ideas, and since it was action-focused, everything aligned perfectly… until scheduling conflicts arose. It’s really unfortunate that things didn’t work out due to scheduling issues.

The Philippou Brothers Haven’t Abandoned the Action Genre

Although the Philippou brothers have abandoned plans for a live-action Street Fighter movie, it doesn’t mean they’ve given up on the action genre completely. With their success in directing two well-received horror films under their belt, they are eager to continue experimenting with this genre and perhaps bring their unique style to it in future projects.

We have a strong desire to create an action-packed movie. There’s one in particular that we can’t wait to get started on. Infusing our unique style into an action film sounds fantastic. Among various projects, an action movie is definitely one we’re working on.

It goes without saying that we’re eager to see what they might accomplish in an action movie, given their impressive track record as directors. The Philippous have truly demonstrated their skill, starting with “Talk to Me” and now with “Bring Her Back,” opening on May 30, which is already being hailed by many as one of the scariest horror films of the year.
