FromSoftware reveals mysterious Elden Ring Nightreign character hours before the game comes out, singlehandedly ending the parrying debate with undead knights who do all the work for you

I don’t believe in deities or rulers, but I do have a collection of dolls as my personal ‘pantheon’. FromSoftware excels at crafting items that are both beautiful and lethal, and the Reverend class revealed for Elden Ring, Nightreign, demonstrates that sometimes aesthetics can outperform even the most skillful parrying.

About a month ago, FromSoftware cryptically unveiled an image of the porcelain doll girl, and ever since, I – along with countless others captivated by her pale countenance and articulated ball-shaped fingers – have found myself pondering. Could she be associated with Bloodborne’s amnesiac Doll NPC or possibly a relative of Elden Ring’s witch Ranni who inhabits a puppet?

As a gamer, I must admit, The Revenant isn’t just another character – it’s a twisted entity that disguises itself as a seemingly ordinary being. You could easily underestimate its body, but beware, for the anger within is far greater than it appears.

With just hours – now minutes – remaining until Nightreign’s launch today, FromSoftware revealed a fresh character trailer and combat preview, highlighting the unique ability of the Revenant to control lost spirits for battle assistance.

She possesses necromancy skills – this is an innate talent of her religious character that allows fallen foes to potentially rise as allies instead. For precise assaults, she can employ her sharp fingernails resembling claws to strum her lyre and summon spirits via the Summon Spirit skill, which brings forth three distinct spirits to manage most of the combat for you. While this is happening, you’re free to perform potent spells and fire bolts of lightning from a secure distance.

In essence, the Revenant’s final ability, Immortal March, provides temporary invulnerability to surviving teammates, and for a brief period, revives slain allies in a critically wounded state.

The gameplay summary describes the Revenant as a figure within an empty structure, propelled by a string tightened by vengeance. In quietness, the fallen seem to be drawn towards it.

Instead of enjoying the combat and parry opportunities offered by other Nightreign characters such as Executor, I find it more appealing to charge through all FromSoftware games with the intensity of a 747 crashing through trees, feeling indestructible.

Living through The Revenant could potentially be my most cherished FromSoftware adventure thus far. The Revenant seems unfazed by challenges; instead, it strategizes effectively within Nightreign, often delegating tasks. At times, a genius can appear as merely a marionette.
