Rowling’s books, it appears that reports suggesting his casting may have been a bit hasty.

To date, only one actor from the Harry Potter TV series cast has been publicly acknowledged, and that’s John Lithgow portraying Dumbledore. “It’s in no way, shape, or form confirmed. I’m thrilled that I would even be considered.”

At this stage, it’s unclear what exactly the actor means because he didn’t provide further details about the situation. It could be that discussions have taken place and his candidacy has been considered, but he hasn’t received any confirmation yet if he got the role. Alternatively, it might be that he’s simply grateful for being mentioned as a potential candidate, but may not have engaged in talks with HBO executives yet. According to reports from Deadline, Variety, and other media sources, it was strongly suggested that Lithgow would portray Dumbledore. If this casting is confirmed, several other roles were rumored to be close to being finalized. For instance, Janet McTeer might take on Minerva McGonagall, while Paapa Essiedu could step into the part of Severus Snape. The most recent contender for a role is Frost, who seems to be the top choice to play Hagrid.
