is enjoying a moment of evil playing the Queen with murderous intentions in
, but she is not used to playing a character looking to persecute and punish the people who stand in the way of her getting what she wants, and even less so in real life. . She is more used to standing up for the people she feels have been oppressed, and, as a performer from Israel, there is one subject right now that has been getting her attention – and that of the media as a result.
Gadot has spoken out publicly about the ongoing Israel-Gaza war, and that has caused several headaches for Disney when it came time to promote Snow White ahead of its cinema release. While Gadot is certainly not responsible for much of the controversy that has surrounded the movie, her political views on her home country have not helped. However, this is something she is aware of, and the reason she usually chooses not to speak out on such matters except in extreme cases. She told Variety:
“There is a challenge for people to speak on social media because there is so much hate going on and so many bots and so many angry people that are looking for a cause. After October 7th [2023], I don’t talk politics — because who cares about the celebrity talking about politics? I’m an artist. I want to entertain people. I want to bring hope and be a beacon of light whenever I say anything about the world, but on October 7th, when people were abducted from their homes, from their beds, men, women, children, elderly, Holocaust survivors, were going through the horrors of what happened that day, I could not be silent. I was shocked by the amount of hate, by the amount of how much people think they know when they actually have no idea, and also by how the media is not fair many times. So I had to speak up.”
Gal Gadot Knows Exactly What She is Advocating For
Naturally, the reactions to Gadot’s comments, just like those of Zegler – who has a different view to that of her costar – have been media cannon fodder for months, and they have drawn plenty of unsavory reactions on social media for both stars. As far as Gadot is concerned, she is not trying to incite hate, but is following her own heart.
“I’m not a hater. I’m a grandchild of a Holocaust survivor who came to Israel and established his family from scratch after his entire family was erased in Auschwitz. And on the other side of my family, I’m eighth generation Israeli. I’m an indigenous person of Israel. I am all about humanity and I felt like I had to advocate for the hostages. When your compass is clear, your conscience is clean. I know what I’m advocating for, and I know what I wish for the world. I am praying for better days for all. I want everybody to have good life and prosperity, and the ability to raise their children in a safe environment.”
As a movie enthusiast, I find it challenging these days to grasp different viewpoints, and expressing an opinion on contentious topics can certainly leave its trace. The impact of Gal Gadot’s remarks might partially be gauged by the box office reception of Snow White.
