GameSir X5 Lite review – “An impressive lightweight controller”

  • Super lightweight design
  • Responsive controls and no-drift joysticks
  • Expands to fit larger phones

Following my evaluation of the GameSir X3 Pro wired gamepad, I grew curious about how the X5 Lite would stack up. To my delight, I found the X5 Lite mobile controller remarkably similar to the GameSir X2s in design. This wrap-around mobile gaming controller is compatible with Android devices and the upcoming iPhone 15/16 models.

The X5 Lite boasts an astonishingly light weight of just 135.4 grams, making it feel almost insubstantial in your grip. At the moment, it comes in two distinct colors: black and wasabi green. Its design exudes a chic and refined aesthetic. This latest addition to our lineup is incredibly user-friendly when it comes to setup.

The GameSir X5 Lite Features a Sophisticated Design

The X5 Lite comes in a pretty standard cardboard box, inside of which you’ll find both the controller, a set of instructions, and several silicone pads. The left front side of the device features the view button towards the top, followed vertically by the left joystick, D-pad, and the M button. On the right, you’ll see the Menu button, XYAB buttons, right joystick, and home button.

The classic left, right, B, and T triggers are positioned at the top of the controller. On the lower left side of the X5 Lite, there’s a USB Type-C port for charging your phone even as you utilize the device simultaneously.

Setting up the X5 Lite is straightforward: Just plug its USB into your phone’s charging slot and adjust the controller’s length so it fits comfortably around your mobile device. With an extended length of 213 mm, this latest GameSir controller should fit most Android phones with ease. Depending on your specific phone model, you might need to download the free GameSir app to establish a connection.

Silicone Pads Keep Your Phone Safe When Using the X5 Lite

As for the included silicone pads, you can swap them out on either side of the USB type-C port to support your phone with the proper level of cushioning. GameSir recommends using the thick silicone pad if there is no protective case on your phone. Otherwise, it’s recommended you use either the thin or hole-covering pads. These pads allow you to make sure your phone is nestled as securely as possible within the controller.

When I first gripped the X5 controller, I was taken aback by its featherweight feel, which initially gave me the impression of a less durable build. Yet, upon testing it out with various games, I discovered that this controller is surprisingly robust and delivers exceptional performance. Moreover, even though it’s light as a feather, there’s an undeniable air of luxury about its design.

The GameSir X5 Lite Offers Peak Performance

While there was nothing earth-shattering about its performance, the X5 Lite is worthy of the
GameSir
name. The controls are responsive, and the buttons never got stuck, no matter how much I mash them while playing combat-intensive titles like Diablo Immortal, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, or Combat Master.

Additionally, the controller boasts rubber-coated, slip-resistant hall joysticks that keep your thumbs firmly in place. The buttons are strategically spaced for a seamless and intuitive button-switching experience.

GameSir X5 Lite is Compatible with Steam Link

GameSir’s X5 Lite is compatible with the Steam Link app, which should please PC fans. After inserting your phone into the controller, downloading the Steam Link app, and connecting your Steam account, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in remote play-enabled games from your Steam Library using your X5 Lite.

Just as I achieved optimal performance while playing games native to my Samsung Galaxy S22, I found the same level of performance when enjoying Steam titles such as Starfield and Fallout New Vegas. Regrettably, for those who prefer PlayStation, the controller’s direct connection instead of Bluetooth means it is incompatible with PS Remote Play.

The GameSir X5 Lite wired mobile controller functions smoothly without any noticeable delay between pressing a button and the corresponding action taking place. This device is also lightweight, ensuring comfort even during extended gaming hours, while its drift-resistant joysticks truly fulfill their promise.

The GameSir X5 Lite, priced at around $34.99, makes an excellent mobile gaming experience for Android devices and latest iPhone models, due to its wrap-around design.
