Garrett Hedlund Tells Us About Jelly Roll Performing On Tulsa King, And Why The Tron Star Doesn’t Sing His Own Original Songs On The Show

As a gamer with a penchant for both action-packed series and music, I must say that Garrett Hedlund‘s versatility in Tulsa King has left me thoroughly entertained. His portrayal of Dwight Manfretti is gripping, and the integration of real-life musicians like Jelly Roll adds an authenticity that resonates deeply with me, a fellow admirer of Oklahoma’s rich cultural scene.

If you recognized Garrett Hedlund as a successful singer-songwriter, raise your hand. Although I’m more familiar with him through his roles in Friday Night Lights, Tron: Legacy, Triple Frontier, and Pan, I didn’t give much thought to his musical talents. However, when he starred in Country Strong alongside Gwyneth Paltrow or Inside Llewyn Davis directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, it became clear that he has a remarkable singing voice!

In the second season of “Tulsa King,” now streaming on Paramount+, Sylvester Stallone’s talents shine as Dwight Manfretti navigates a territorial conflict with Kansas City gangsters. The show offers a blend of action and humor, capturing the essence of Oklahoma’s unique culture, food, music, and community. Notably, country artist Jelly Roll made an appearance in Episode 2 of Season 2 to perform a song. When I interviewed Garrett Hedlund about his cameo, he shared with TopMob that this was one of the highlights of the series.

It’s terrific that Jelly Roll played! He’s an exceptional individual, both in character and artistry. We truly enjoyed ourselves that day.

By chance, Jelly Roll was a featured artist during the opening episode of Saturday Night Live, marking a hectic and eventful week for the entertainer.

You’re probably familiar, given your viewing of Tulsa King Season 2, that Garrett Hedlund has been performing and entertaining the crowd at his bar by singing songs. Interestingly, Hedlund has mostly been covering other artists’ work, but he shared with me the reason behind not trying to incorporate his original compositions into the series yet. For the time being, Hedlund explained.

Sure thing! Nah, you know how it goes – these special moments call for some serious celebration. But I guess I don’t have many party tunes up my sleeve. So let’s brainstorm some fun new songs for the future.

The prospect of Tulsa King seems promising. Streamable on Paramount+, the series has augmented its main cast by introducing Frank Grillo and Neal McDonogh as antagonists. These seasoned actors fit their roles flawlessly, with Grillo demonstrating a strong counterpart to Stallone, who reigns supreme in all aspects. Simultaneously, Dwight is yet to resolve his issues with Stacy, the ATF agent responsible for his bribery charges, and the drug trade in the Midwest shows no signs of simplifying.

I can’t wait to keep catching up on Tulsa King, hoping to enjoy more of Garrett Hedlund’s unique music creations as long as his character continues to thrive and make it through each episode!
