Gary Oldman Wanted More Sirius Black in Harry Potter Movies

As a seasoned movie critic with over four decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Gary Oldman is indeed a treasure we all could use more of, and so were the Harry Potter movies, according to the man himself. Oldman’s portrayal of Sirius Black in Prisoner of Azkaban was nothing short of brilliant, and it’s a shame we didn’t get to see more of him across the franchise.

It’s been suggested that we could all benefit from a touch more of Gary Oldman in our lives, and the Harry Potter movies might have as well, according to Oldman himself. Known for playing Sirius Black, the infamous title character in “Prisoner of Azkaban,” and Harry Potter’s godfather (Daniel Radcliffe), Oldman first stepped into the Wizarding World with “Prisoner of Azkaban” and had a brief appearance in “The Goblet of Fire.” His role expanded significantly in “The Order of the Phoenix.” Reflecting on his time in the Potter universe, Gary Oldman expresses a desire for fans to have seen more of Sirius Black throughout the series.

In an interview with IndieWire during the Emmys, Gary Oldman reflected on the demise of his character, Sirius Black. Initially portrayed as a villain planning to harm Harry Potter, Sirius later transformed into one of Harry’s closest friends and last remaining family members. Sadly, after learning that his godfather had passed away, Harry was left an orphan once more. Sirius met his end at the hands of Bellatrix Lestrange, and his soul disappeared into a mystifying portal.

“He wasn’t in it enough. He turned up and then he went through the veil.”

Reflecting on the original Harry Potter films produced by Warner Bros., it’s hard to believe the incredible ensemble cast they gathered. Alongside Oldman, stars like Richard Harris (who unfortunately passed away), Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Ralph Fiennes, Brendan Gleeson, David Tennant, and numerous others graced our screens in these movies. From the production team to the actors, everyone seemed to give their best for this series. However, it’s interesting to note that Gary Oldman has expressed dislike for his performances in the Harry Potter films.

In the Harry Potter films, Gary Oldman admitted that he found his own acting subpar and lamented not having read the books ahead of time because it would have given him insight into his character’s fate. He acknowledged that Alan Rickman, who portrayed Professor Snape, had done extensive research compared to himself, a factor that may have contributed to the differences in their performances.

“I believe that, given my current knowledge and skills, my work is average at best. If I had read the same books as Alan, anticipated developments ahead of time, and knew what was to come, I honestly feel that I would have approached things differently.

The fan community of the “Harry Potter” series finds itself in a state of disagreement concerning the forthcoming reboot that HBO is planning. This new adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books will bring the legendary story to television screens, but as of now, no casting decisions have been made public since HBO has only just issued a casting call for the main characters. However, it appears that Gary Oldman may be anticipating a possible comeback in the series, this time portraying a new character. Oldman expressed:

“I’m quite certain they’ll bring in a fresh set of actors. Perhaps in a few years, I might even have the chance to play Dumbledore.
