Gavin Creel, Tony-Award Winning Actor From ‘Hair’ and ‘Hello, Dolly!,’ Dies at 48

As a gamer with a soft spot for Broadway and its talented stars, I was deeply saddened by the news of Gavin Creel‘s passing. His vibrant energy and remarkable talent graced many stages, including some of my all-time favorite productions like “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “Hair,” and “Hello Dolly!”.

Broadway actor Gavin Creel died Monday at the age of 48.

The renowned Tony Award-winning actor, recognized for his principal roles in shows such as Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hair, Hello Dolly!, and the recent restaging of Into the Woods, among others, passed away following a diagnosis with a rare and aggressive type of cancer in July 2024. He received treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center during this time.

His passing was confirmed by his partner Alex Temple Ward.

A smaller, intimate family event is planned, while a public celebration of life will follow at an as-yet undisclosed time for the entire community.

More to come.
