Georg Jensen, a renowned Danish design brand, has unveiled its latest store in London, which can be found on New Bond Street.
Indeed, as anticipated, the interior’s style echoes the classic, contemporary flair that Georg Jensen is known for, using gentle hues to demarcate distinct spaces within it.
The premier location signifies the brand’s comeback to the Mayfair district – over a century ago, they initially set up shop in the city and disrupted the British silverware industry with their contemporary Danish aesthetic.
Looking back at this era and following years, our brand is organizing an exhibition, led by our new creative director Paula Gerbase. This exhibition serves as a comprehensive introduction for visitors into the iconic midcentury pieces designed by Georg Jensen from the 1940s to the 1960s.
According to creative director Paula Gerbase, our collection showcases how Georg Jensen has consistently led in major design trends worldwide throughout the last century, always with a daring and progressive mindset. She notes that her position, the opening of the new store, and the upcoming exhibition mark a fresh start or new phase for the brand.
As a gamer, I’m fortunate to have Gerbase handpick some exceptional pieces for me. Among them are stunning jewelry creations from the Danish design duo Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel, elegant tableware designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen, and a remarkable necklace by jewelry designer Bent Gabrielsen, all crafted in 18k gold.
Inside the multistory building, Gerbase envisions ample room not just for retail, but also for activities beyond regular shopping. The layout showcases this, and to further enhance the experience, a changing display of modern Nordic art will be featured as part of an ongoing program.
Initially on the list is artist Kim Naver, who has worked with Georg Jensen in the past on silverware items. However, for this occasion, she will showcase her textiles, being part of the Mid-Century Marvels exhibition instead.
The Georg Jensen Mayfair store is open now, and the exhibition runs until February 16th.
