George Clooney and Brad Pitt Tease New Ocean’s Movie: Cate Blanchett Weighs In!

Over the weekend, Cate Blanchett’s new film, “Black Bag,” premiered in cinemas, and it has been receiving positive reviews from critics. This latest project sees Blanchett collaborating once again with director Steven Soderbergh, who was instrumental in creating the original “Ocean’s” trilogy in the early 2000s and served as a producer for “Ocean’s 8.” In our conversation, I couldn’t help but ask Blanchett if there had been discussions about her returning to the Ocean’s franchise.

For years, there have been whispers about Ocean’s 14. Lately, Variety announced in January that David Leitch, director of Bullet Train, is in discussions to direct the sequel (replacing Edward Berger who was previously linked to the project). Here’s what Blanchett shared when I asked her about its future prospects:

I find myself frequently reaching out to Steven Soderbergh, almost to the point where it might seem a bit stalker-ish. But don’t get me wrong, if he ever needs me, I’d be more than happy to collaborate with him at any time. However, I feel the need to make this known publicly, just so he doesn’t mistake my enthusiasm for jesting. I hear George and Brad are working on a new project, but I believe that Steven would be an excellent fit given his passion for those types of films. After all, while I was only tangentially involved in a version of them, I know how much he cherishes making such iconic movies. Yet, I sense that he’s always moving forward, never repeating himself.

Actress Cate Blanchett has collaborated with director Steven Soderbergh on several projects throughout her career, beginning with her lead role in his 2006 war drama “The Good German.” During our conversation, Blanchett expressed her readiness to work with the director again, but it seems that this time, Soderbergh may be taking a step back. However, she hinted that George Clooney and Brad Pitt could potentially lead the next installment of the “Ocean’s” series, rather than a sequel to “Ocean’s 8” being produced.

According to a recent update on the upcoming film “Ocean’s 14,” George Clooney and Brad Pitt are anticipated to reprise their roles as the film is being developed by Clooney’s production company Smokehouse. However, there’s uncertainty about whether the original gang will reunite, as Matt Damon has expressed his readiness to join the franchise again, but only if the rest of the team might be coming back together over the summer.

While you eagerly anticipate George Clooney and Brad Pitt reprising their roles in a new Ocean’s film, why not bring the thrilling adventure home with the Ocean’s Trilogy (or Ocean’s Eight) in stunning 4K UHD? Unfortunately, these films aren’t currently streaming anywhere, so this is your chance to own them.

As a die-hard film fan, it’s been quite disheartening since the release of the last Ocean’s movie starring Clooney and Pitt, to learn that two of the original Eleven – Bernie Mac in 2008 and Carl Reiner in 2020 – have sadly passed away. With the number game still in play, I can envision the new film incorporating some members from Ocean’s 8, especially given the challenges in gathering the entire cast from the original movie. The idea of Cate Blanchett joining the action definitely gets my pulse racing!

You might remember that the film Ocean’s 8 shared a connection with Ocean’s 11 as Debbie, played by Sandra Bullock, was Danny Ocean’s sister, who was portrayed by George Clooney in the original. It’d be pretty awesome to envision them combining forces, right? I can’t help but daydream about the clever quips that could enrich the Ocean’s series even further. As my thoughts wander on possible continuations for the Ocean’s saga, you might want to check out Cate Blanchett in action as a spy in the movie Black Bag, now playing in theaters.
