As a movie reviewer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen more sitcom cameos than I can count – but the return of Coach Wilkins to the Big Bang Theory universe has me genuinely excited! I remember the days when George Sr. and Wayne Wilkins were inseparable, coaching football at Medford High School and hanging out after hours.
This year, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage won’t feature a Christmas episode, but rest assured, there are other significant episodes in store for the CBS series. As the show returns during the 2025 TV schedule, anticipate seeing more characters from Young Sheldon appear. One character, with a strong bond to the Cooper family, will make an appearance. Additionally, actor Doc Farrow is set to reappear in The Big Bang Theory universe, and I have a feeling we’ll be catching up with Wayne Wilkins once more.
Anyone drawing a blank concerning that name may know him better as Coach Wilkins, the co-worker and best friend of George Sr. The duo coached football at Medford High School and would occasionally hang out outside of the job as well. Doc Farrow teased his upcoming appearance on Instagram with a cheeky little picture to check out:

Without having to rewatch “Young Sheldon” with my Netflix account, I can still identify the familiar Wayne expression in this picture. However, when Wayne appears on “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” I believe his demeanor will be significantly different, showing more somber emotions rather than his usual cheerfulness. This is likely because of Wayne’s strong connections to George Sr., which may evoke a more poignant and sad tone in the series.
Why I Think Wayne Wilkins Is Coming To Georgie & Mandy
In the show “Young Sheldon,” Doc Farrow’s character, Wayne, was among those who discovered George Sr. when he sadly passed away. His friend’s death left him deeply affected, as we saw in the series. I suspect that his grief will still be palpable whenever he encounters Georgie again in the sitcom.
The fall finale of Georgie and Mandy concluded with a pivotal moment that could significantly alter one character’s demeanor; however, there’s a possibility it may lead to unintended consequences.
In my perspective as an ardent fan, while we’ve subtly acknowledged the passing of Georgie’s father, the narrative for “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” demands more involvement from other characters to help Georgie grapple with his loss. The creators might choose to incorporate Lance Barber’s character, George Sr., in a dream sequence or some other innovative method, but it seems unlikely they’d introduce such a significant moment so early on in Season 1.
The series requires characters such as Wayne Wilkins to maintain the essence of George Sr., without physically introducing him as a ghost. I’m eagerly anticipating a significant interaction between Wayne and Georgie, which will unfold during their reunion in the show Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
In the meantime, the CBS sitcom has many more subplots to unfold, including the possible reasons for Georgie and Mandy’s separation. I can’t help but ponder if they might part ways before Season 1 ends. We’ll find out in the upcoming year, but until then, we can only guess what will happen.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” is set to resume on CBS with fresh episodes starting January 30th at 8:00 p.m. ET. The wait might seem endless, but if we get more cameos similar to Doc Farrow’s from ‘Young Sheldon’, it will be worth the wait.
