Geralt of Rivia Faces the Sea People in The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep

Liam Hemsworth could potentially assume the role of Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s live-action series. But before that airs, an animated spin-off titled “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” is slated for release next month within Netflix’s Witcher universe.

In this new installment, Geralt encounters the game’s portrayal of sea-dwelling beings, promising to be an exciting journey brimming with elements cherished by fans throughout the series.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep

In the upcoming film, Geralt embarks on a fresh journey alongside the minstrel Jaskier. It appears that their path may cross with the underwater realm ruled by a character resembling Aquaman, and his community of aquatic beings. Take a look at it!

As per GameSpot’s report, the movie is set in the mid-point of the first season’s narrative timeline, following closely after Geralt encounters Yennefer in Vengerberg and attempts to move past her. The film will be adapted from Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story “A Little Sacrifice,” and it brings Geralt and Yennefer back together when they are both thrust into a conflict between humans and merfolk.

Additionally, it’s important to mention that the movie will introduce another potential romantic interest for Geralt, named Essi Daven. While Yennefer is known to be the main love of Geralt’s tale, there’s nothing stopping fans from enjoying the idea of him developing feelings for other characters he encounters throughout his journey.

No Liam Hemsworth?

It appears that Liam Hemsworth, cast as Geralt for the live-action series, won’t be part of the production of “Sirens of the Deep“. Instead, Doug Cockle, who lends his voice to Geralt in the game, will continue to do so.

It turns out that in the remainder of the movie, characters like Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Joey Batey (Jaskier), and Christina Wren (Essi) will lend their voices to their live-action roles instead.

Speaking as a devoted fan, it appears that Director Kang Hei Chui is embarking on his first animated project at the helm. Previously, Chui has contributed as a storyboard artist for “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf,” and he’s also lent his talents to other exciting ventures such as the revival of Voltron and “Teen Titans GO! To the Movies.

The Future of Witcher

As an ardent fan, I must admit that the departure of Henry Cavill as Geralt in The Witcher left me a bit disheartened. However, it seems that Netflix is determined to carry on the saga, with Chris Hemsworth stepping into the role for seasons 4 and 5. Interestingly, these next two seasons are being filmed consecutively, with season 4 set to make its debut later this year.

It’s uncertain how they plan to handle Cavill leaving the role, but it’s been suggested that this upcoming season serves as a sort of fresh start or reboot in a more subtle way. Let’s hope that showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich can wrap up the series effectively because there has been a significant drop in viewer trust, particularly due to Cavill’s departure which was attributed to creative disagreements with the showrunner.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep comes to Netflix on Feb. 11.
