As a seasoned gamer of the urban jungle, I’ve seen my fair share of collaborations, but the one between 1664 and André Saraiva during Copenhagen Fashion Week left me utterly impressed. Being a frequent visitor to the Danish capital myself, I can say that their creative community is as vibrant and diverse as the city’s bike lanes!
During fashion week, Copenhagen transforms into a hub for cutting-edge style, art, architecture, and lifestyle design. This season, the partnership between premium beer brand 1664 and André Saraiva took center stage at the summer’s showcases. To gain an inside perspective, TopMob ventured to the Danish capital for the latest episode of A Day in the Life.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Saraiva will be in charge of an “artist takeover” of the 1664 bottle and can. This means his vibrant style will harmonize beautifully with the beer’s light and fizzy tones. Starting now, you can find these collaborative brews throughout Copenhagen. The launch event was a citywide celebration of two well-known entities merging together, and it’s being shared with the creative community as they attend various events.
On the second day of fashion week, TopMob trailed the Franco-Swedish artist through the city to explore the initiatives and art pieces advertising the exclusive product launch. The journey commenced in the Indre By district where he arrived by bike, eager to begin his day by visiting the collaboration’s recently established kiosk pop-up.
Moving from the exterior into the store, the venue underwent a genuine 1664 overhaul, adorning its unique blue shade on shopping carts, baskets, and refrigerators brimming with beer. Discussing the bottle’s design, he comments, “I began graffiti because it transported my art to diverse locations. This partnership mirrors that essence, as each person who drinks a 1664 bottle becomes part of the experience. It embodies the spirit of graffiti.”
During his younger years, Saraiva often spent weekends in Copenhagen, making art. This wasn’t his only, or last, visit to the city. He had this connection with Copenhagen because it was near his hometown in Sweden, and he would frequently hang out there, earning a reputation among friends as the “cool kid” spot. Familiar with the area like the back of his hand, he hopped on his bike and led us to our next destination.
Amidst a crowd gathering nearby, the artist stepped into their midst, basking under the sun’s glow, to admire the mural he had finished only a few days prior. This large-scale masterpiece adorned an entire five-story building, showcasing intricate line drawings of his beloved characters Mr. A and Mrs. A, accompanied by a 1664 Blanc bottle. As noon approached, the artist left to attend the Caro Editions exhibition, guided by his friend Caroline Brasch. There, he took his seat front and center to appreciate the outdoor parade of printed designs unfolding before him.
Following a brief visit to the Tekla presentation, Saraiva made his way to Vesterbro for an exclusive dinner on the storied Carlsberg estate. As the evening’s featured artist, he was seated centrally at the table adorned with unique bottles of Blanc de Blanc winery beer, each bearing gold labels that were his own design. Across from him sat Frederick Bille Brahe, a restaurateur who had previously collaborated on pop-ups at Saraiva’s Hotel Grand Amour in Paris.
On this occasion, Brahe prepared unique dishes that harmonized with the flavor of beer, accompanied by fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and other items. Saraiva expressed his thoughts after the four-course meal: “Copenhagen represents quality food, aesthetics, and values.” However, he emphasizes that the essence lies in the idea of sharing and equality, a concept he aimed to embody during the 1664 event.
