Fans are pleasantly surprised with an unexpected bonus on Netflix as the 2018 action-thriller “Den of Thieves” and its sequel have been suddenly included in Netflix’s collection. Despite Gerard Butler’s portrayal of “Big Nick” O’Brien not resulting in $1 billion box office successes, the popularity of the series is evident, leading to a third “Den of Thieves” film being greenlit for production.
Released in 2018, the movie “Den of Thieves” saw a moderate success at the box office, but garnered mixed reviews from critics. Despite this, many viewers enjoyed it, and years later, it became popular on numerous streaming services. Fans clamored for a sequel, and it seemed likely one would be produced… However, due to pandemic-related delays and other factors, it wasn’t until January of this year that fans got to witness the return of Big Nick in “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera.
If you haven’t yet experienced the “Den of Thieves” series, it features Butler as “Big Nick” O’Brien, a tough and unyielding detective within the Major Crimes unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. His character, an anti-hero with a penchant for bending rules to apprehend criminals, appeals strongly to fans of action-packed thrillers. The series also boasts a robust supporting cast, including Pablo Schreiber as the mastermind behind a skilled heist gang and O’Shea Jackson Jr. as a driver finding himself in the middle of both factions. Now, Netflix subscribers can enjoy both movies back-to-back with ease.
‘Den of Thieves 3’ Will Continue to Deliver More of the Same Action
Director Christian Gudegast hinted at potential aspects of the upcoming film to enthusiastic fans, long before it received official approval. While promoting Den of Thieves 2, he shared some insights with MovieWeb about what viewers might anticipate from the new movie.
From the start, Butler and I clicked. He’s a robust, masculine figure, and our rapport was instant. His interest in my writing drew us closer, and by the time we teamed up for “Den of Thieves,” we had already worked on a few projects together. Some didn’t make it to production, but a few did. Tucker Tooley, our producer, has also collaborated with Butler. We all collaborate effectively, and we’re excited about continuing our partnership in future projects.
Despite a slight delay for the third Den of Thieves movie, it won’t resemble the seven-year break between the initial two films. Given that everyone seems to be on board, there’s no indication that the Den of Thieves series is nearing its end. Instead, we can anticipate another thrilling heist at the box office when Den of Thieves 3 hits theaters in the coming years.
