Get Ready for CBS’s ‘Watson’: Release Schedule and What to Expect!

As we eagerly anticipate the debut of CBS’s intriguing new medical series, Watson, set for Sunday, January 26, 2025, it’s natural to ponder how they’ll schedule its release around Super Bowl LIX on February 9th. Veteran actor Morris Chestnut brings a fresh take to the iconic character John Watson, originally created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and known for his partnership with Sherlock Holmes in solving crimes.

13 episodes have been planned for Watson Season 1, airing weekly every Sunday starting in January 2025 on CBS. However, due to Super Bowl LIX, at least one episode’s release may be slightly adjusted. Here’s a guide to catch up with the series once it premieres:

* Tune into CBS each Sunday for new episodes.
* If you miss an episode due to the Super Bowl, check CBS’s official website or app for updates on when the affected episode will air.
* You can also record the series using a digital video recorder (DVR) or streaming service if you won’t be able to watch it live.
* For fans living outside the US, look for legal streaming options available in your region.
* Keep an eye on CBS’s official social media channels and Watson’s official website for additional information about the show.

‘Watson’s Season 1 Release Schedule

On Sunday, January 26, 2025, the pilot of Watson is scheduled to be broadcast on CBS. However, this date falls during the NFL’s Conference Championship week, with CBS airing the AFC game. As a result, instead of airing at its usual time of 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT, the pilot will likely air after the AFC title game concludes, around 10:00 PM ET/7:00 PM PT.

After Watson’s first episode debuts on January 26, 2025, viewers will have to endure a two-week gap before Episode 2, titled “Redcoat,” airs on CBS on February 16th. This break is due to audiences being directed to watch the Grammy Awards on CBS on February 2nd and Super Bowl LIX on Fox on February 9th. Once the NFL season concludes, viewers can look forward to Watson resuming its regular weekly episodes every Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, Watson continues his quest to uncover what happened to Moriarty while coping with the loss of his dear friend and partner, Sherlock Holmes.

What Is ‘Watson’ About?

Craig Sweeny developed the TV show “Watson” for CBS, a medical mystery series inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous character John Watson (Chestnut). After spending many pages in the shadow of Detective Sherlock Holmes as his sidekick, Watson will grapple with the death of his long-term partner when the show premieres on January 26, 2025. According to Deadline’s exclusive report, the storyline of “Watson” resumes from this point.

A year following Sherlock Holmes’s supposed demise at the hands of his arch-nemesis Moriarty, Dr. John Watson reopens a practice in Pittsburgh, which he names ‘The Holmes Clinic’, to help people with peculiar and unexplained health issues. However, things take an unexpected turn when signs emerge suggesting that Moriarty may not be dead after all, forcing Watson to confront his past.

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the shift in Sherlock Holmes’ setting from London to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This change will undoubtedly introduce fresh international updates and plotlines, veering significantly from Doyle’s original works. Just like CBS did with Elementary, they took a modern approach with this investigative procedural by moving Sherlock Holmes from Europe to New York to tackle a series of crimes. With Watson finally taking center stage, fans can anticipate a similar release pattern and narrative style.

Who Stars in ‘Watson’?

The film or TV series is described as a “medical drama interwoven with detective aspects.” Veteran actor Morris Chestnut will portray the character John Watson, alongside a stellar supporting cast. After moving from London to head the Holmes Clinic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Watson employs his distinctive deductive reasoning to solve crimes. Although his unconventional approaches may cause some friction, Watson must adapt to his new surroundings and work harmoniously with his new team to reveal the truth behind Moriarty’s disappearance.

Among the new colleagues of Watson are Ingrid Derian, a cool and detached brain specialist (portrayed by Eve Harlow); identical twin brothers, Adam and Stephens Croft, both infectious disease experts (played by Peter Mark Kendall); Shinwell Johnson, a former London criminal who provides crucial information (Ritchie Coster); Sasha Lubbock, a skilled rheumatologist dealing with cultural differences (Inga Schlingmann), and others. Watson also interacts with his ex-wife Mary Mostran, now the medical director, who offers him wise counsel despite their past marital issues (Rochelle Aytes).

Starting from January 26, 2024, Watson’s first season will air with a total of 13 episodes. Interestingly, a sneak peek was shown at MIPCON Cannes in October 2024. Later on, the series can be watched online exclusively on Paramount+ from its debut date.
