One of the most debated comedies from recent years is set to receive a much-anticipated follow-up. Originally released over two decades ago, “White Chicks” stars Shawn Wayans and another actor as FBI agents who disguise themselves as two wealthy white women…using “whiteface.” After years of fan requests, Marlon Wayans has announced that the characters Brittany and Tiffany Wilson will return for “White Chicks 2“.
Greeting the morning with a smile, I shared with Good Morning America that after the much-anticipated launch of “Scary Movie 6,” we’re ready to dive back into another hilarious adventure – “White Chicks 2.” As a creative spirit, I can’t help but feel it’s time to bring this beloved project back to life!
He mentioned, “‘When will there be a follow-up film?’ is a question fans frequently ask, as they adore the original movie. So, I believe it’s about time. Let’s work on Scary Movie 6 now, followed by White Chicks 2.”
Under the direction of Keenen Ivory Wayans, who collaborated on the script with his brothers Xavier Cook, Andy McElfresh, and Michael Anthony Snowden, the film “White Chicks” features Terry Crews, Jaime King, Frankie Faison, Lochlyn Munro, Busy Philipps, John Heard, along with the Wayans duo. Upon its release, the movie received heavy criticism, earning a dismal 15% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, symbolizing a large, negative review. Critics labeled it “silly” and “obvious.
Marlon Wayans Thinks Comedies Like ‘White Chicks’ Are Needed Now More Than Ever
The movie “White Chicks” garnered more affection from viewers, as it received a 55% rating on the Popcornmeter (though it was still not an exceptional score) and grossed $113.1 million globally at the box office. Over time, this buddy cop comedy has developed a cult following, being seen as a relic from the past by fans who have long anticipated a sequel. With the Wayans returning for “Scary Movie 6,” set to premiere on June 12, 2026, they are excited about sharing “White Chicks” with modern audiences once more.
As a movie enthusiast, I firmly believe that the upcoming sequel will stir up just as much debate as its predecessor, much like Marlon Wayans asserted in 2022. He argued that comedies such as “White Chicks” are more crucial than ever before, stating, “I think they’re needed. I can’t fathom what world we inhabit where people don’t crave laughter and where individuals are silenced and canceled.” In essence, his words were, “If a joke is going to get me kicked out, well, thank you for doing that for me. It’s disheartening that society has reached a point where we can no longer laugh freely. I refuse to heed the advice of this generation.”
There’s a strong chance that the return of comedy and controversy in another “White Chicks” movie is up for debate, considering it might involve digital makeup instead of practical effects, and the original cast member Busy Philipps may not reprise her role. As of now, specifics about “White Chicks 2” remain unknown.
