It appears that Ghost of Yotei is shaping up to be a fantastic addition to the open-world genre, which is why it’s not surprising that its creators draw inspiration from acclaimed games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Elden Ring.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, the creative directors of Ghost of Yotei, Nate Fox and Jason Connell, were asked about games that best embody the enchanting allure of open-world exploration. They swiftly pointed to two influential titles: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Elden Ring. According to Connell, these games are “exceptional,” while Fox agrees, describing them as “remarkable.
In crafting Ghost of Yotei, Sucker Punch has focused on maintaining the exploratory aspect, seen in games like Breath of the Wild, Elden Ring, and Ghost of Tsushima. This open-world follow-up to Tsushima serves as a chance to continually innovate in this area, as Connell describes it. The team’s goal is to keep players engrossed and captivated by the world, which is a design they truly enjoy.
In the latest game version, merchants and mission providers can drop by players while they are camping, eliminating the need to navigate through maps to find icons. During gameplay, players will also have the ability to use a telescope to detect ongoing activities or notable spots. As Connell points out, “Giant [quest] logs have been common for quite some time, haven’t they? This extensive catalog listing everything you’ve accomplished, what’s left to do, and what’s coming up – it can feel overwhelming.
He mentions that we chose to devise unique methods to share information with you, while maintaining an inviting atmosphere since people enjoy discovering and interacting with the game in various manners. Some individuals are eager to follow the golden path, while others prefer a more adventurous journey. The key observation is that it’s essential to find a balance, and Ghost of Yotei seems to be achieving this perfectly.
Players won’t have much longer to wait before they can dive into the open-world genre themselves as the game’s sequel is set to launch on October 2nd.
