Ghost of Yotei Takes Place 300 Years After Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Yotei Takes Place 300 Years After Ghost of Tsushima

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the gaming industry never ceases to amaze me with its creative twists and turns. The announcement of Ghost of Yotei has sent waves of anticipation through the community, and while some may be disappointed that Jin Sakai won’t be gracing our screens again, I, for one, am excited to see what Sucker Punch has in store for us with a new protagonist, Atsu.

2020 marked the debut of Jin Sakai for PlayStation gamers through the game “Ghost of Tsushima”. Since then, there’s been anticipation building among players as they eagerly await the release of a sequel by Sucker Punch.

PlayStation has unveiled significant details about their forthcoming games, and it’s been disclosed that the sequel to “Ghost of Tsushima” will center around a completely fresh character named Atsu. While Jin was an acceptable lead character, Sony PlayStation had compelling motives for introducing a new Ghost in this upcoming title.

Why Isn’t Jin Sakai in Ghost of Yotei?

It’s been unveiled that Jin Sakai won’t be a character in the game “Ghost of Yotei” because he would have grown too old by then. In an interview with PlayStation Blog, Andrew Goldfarb from Sucker Punch explained that the game “Yotei” is set 300 years after the events depicted in “Ghost of Tsushima”. Goldfarb stated this in his writing.

Additionally, we aimed to keep pushing boundaries in our work. Instead of sticking solely with Jin Sakai’s tale on the island of Tsushima, we chose to delve into the concept of the Ghost character. At Sucker Punch Productions, we are fascinated by origin stories, and we wanted to delve deeper into what it would be like for a new hero to wear a Ghost mask and uncover a fresh legend. This exploration led us to Ghost of Yōtei: a new main character, a brand-new storyline, and a chance to discover a new part of Japan.

As a gamer, I’ve traversed the vast lands of Tsushima with its intricate network of samurai clans. However, Yotei presents a fresh landscape, rumored to mirror the real-world Hokkaido.

The area near Mount Yotei is rumored to fall outside Japanese jurisdiction, implying that adventurers might encounter various unforeseen risks while tackling this latest Ghost.

Atsu—the New Ghost

As I delve into this fresh gaming world, not a lot’s been shared about Ghost Atsu just yet. But from what I gather about her ghostly persona, it seems she’s on another mission for vengeance, roaming the land in pursuit of some form of redemption.

As a gamer, I can tell you that unlike me who mostly relies on a single katana, Atsu seems to favor dual blades instead. It’s intriguing to speculate that her combat stances might be distinct from mine in the upcoming game. From what I’ve glimpsed so far, it appears she could even wield unique weapons such as a medieval rifle, which is definitely something new and exciting!

One key difference between Atsu and Jin lies in their reliance on animal companions. While Jin could interact with foxes in the initial game, Atsu has an actual companion who can attack enemies while he’s focused on delivering some serious beatdowns, similar to how Joel had Ellie in “The Last of Us” or Kratos had Atreus in “God of War.

Currently, details about Yotei are scarce, yet the prospect of constructing a brand-new ‘Ghost’ promises an engaging tale, even though some fans had hoped for Jin’s return.

Watch out for Ghost of Yotei when it releases for the PS5 sometime in 2025.
