Discussing her potential involvement in Ryan Coogler’s revival of the “The X-Files” universe, original star Gillian Anderson pondered if she might reprise her role. The original series, which aired from 1993 to 2002 and later returned in 2016, follows two FBI agents across nine seasons and 202 episodes. In “The X-Files,” Anderson portrayed Dana Scully, the skeptical partner of Fox Mulder, played by David Duchovny, who was more open to unexplained phenomena.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I had the pleasure of appearing on ITV’s This Morning recently. During the interview, they asked me about my potential involvement in Ryan Coogler’s long-awaited X-Files reboot. While I can’t reveal too much, I did mention that I’ve had a conversation with the director of Sinners to offer him my support for his visionary take on the series. Moreover, should Ryan reach out and propose a role that aligns with my own feelings about its suitability, I would be more than happy to rejoin the X-Files family. For now, you can catch my full response in the clip below.
In a conversation, I expressed, “In my opinion, you’d be ideal for the task. I wish you great success, do give me a call if you can.” If, at some stage, my phone rings with a suitable opportunity and the timing seems appropriate—maybe so.
What Anderson’s Response Means For The X-Files Reboot
The Series May Not Reunite The Leading Pair
In a 2024 interview, Duchovny expressed less enthusiasm about reprising his role as Mulder, suggesting that he was uncertain if the show would continue with him and Scully as the main characters. However, he did mention that he had faith in the writers to produce a contemporary continuation of the series, implying that he might be observing the show’s development from the sidelines. Consequently, it remains uncertain whether the series will return to its original format featuring Mulder and Scully as the primary characters.
Our Take On Anderson’s Potential The X-Files Return
Mulder’s Potential Return May Be In A Different Role
Following the acclaim of the show Sinners, there’s great anticipation among viewers for Ryan Coogler’s revamp of The X-Files. This eagerness is heightened by Gillian Anderson and creator Chris Carter expressing positive sentiments towards the director. Nevertheless, it’s uncertain how the series will tackle its links to the show’s history. However, with Anderson hinting at a possible Scully comeback despite Duchovny’s doubts, it seems plausible that the new series might concentrate on a fresh generation exploring the unknown, possibly with Scully providing some mentorship along the way.
