Following the success of films such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Twisters”, Glen Powell might find himself involved in another box office hit with the upcoming 2025 film “The Running Man”. Directed by Edgar Wright, this movie is a modern take on Stephen King’s novel which was previously adapted into an ’80s film featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger. In a recent interview, Powell shared his thoughts on becoming a movie star, and it seems Cruise would approve of his dedication to the craft.
As a cinephile putting it in my own words, Glen Powell, undeniably utilizing a stand-in for some high-octane scenes, has likened the Mission: Impossible series to a perilous labyrinth. Yet, when it comes to his methodology in filmmaking, he’s not far off from the spirit of Maverick from Top Gun. When asked about his transformation, not just as an actor and industry player, but also as a producer, this is what Powell shared:
“I’ve grown leaps and bounds, not only as an artist but as a producer. I’ve learned to trust my instincts more, take risks, and collaborate with the best in the business. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.
As a film enthusiast myself, it’s a unique opportunity for me to contribute to the movie-loving community. For the first time in my professional journey, being involved in a film can give it the green light. This chance allows me to bring movies to life in ways I’ve never been able to before, and only a select few get this opportunity. I recognize and respect the importance of this role.
As a cinephile and budding entrepreneur, I’ve recently ventured into uncharted territory – the world of condiments, partnering with Smash Kitchen to launch my own line of ketchup (and more)! However, in an exclusive interview with Forbes, I reiterated that my primary focus remains on creating films that resonate with audiences and keep them coming back for more.
According to the actor from Twisters, he’s now at a point where simply attaching his name to a project can get it approved for production. He views this as a significant responsibility and intends to utilize it, not just for career growth, but to provide enjoyable movies for audiences. He went on to say:
In a collaborative effort with exceptional directors, I’m striving to create films that resonate with their unique strengths and the genres they excel in. It’s the toughest work I’ve ever undertaken, but the fulfillment I derive from it is unparalleled – it feels like this work is the very essence of my passion. Every morning, I wake up brimming with joy, eager to pour all my energy into this endeavor.
Ever since my childhood days, I’ve been gracing the silver screen, starting way back in 2003 with “Spy Kids 3: Game Over.” Before I became a household name, I had the privilege of collaborating with some heavyweight directors, like when I joined forces with Christopher Nolan for “The Dark Knight Rises.”
However, it was my time working alongside Tom Cruise in “Top Gun: Maverick” that truly ignited my movie star spark. Cruise is renowned for producing grandiose films that are nothing short of cinematic masterpieces under the guidance of talented directors, and it appears I’m following suit!
During the interview, Powell revealed that his family has a strong affection for entertainment and consumes it extensively, which makes him believe he can offer a discerning taste that could resonate with others like him and potentially revolutionize Hollywood for the better. It’s refreshing to note that just as Tom Cruise is said to have rescued Hollywood with the second Top Gun film, there are now more actors in our generation stepping up to produce high-quality entertainment. So far, Powell seems to be delivering on this promise.
