Glen Powell Is 'Fired Up' To Star In The Remake Of Stephen King's The Running Man, And His Enthusiasm Is Getting Me Super Hyped

As a huge fan of both Edgar Wright and Stephen King, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming adaptation of “The Running Man.” Three years have passed since the project was first announced, and now it seems we’re finally making progress with Glen Powell set to star and production gearing up to start in the fall.

As a gamer and an avid fan of both Edgar Wright’s work and Stephen King’s “The Running Man,” I’ve been eagerly awaiting this project for over three years now. The announcement that director Wright would be bringing the novel to life was exciting news, but recent updates have me even more pumped up.

Glen Powell is currently promoting his new film “Twisters,” which opens in theaters this Friday, in media interviews. During an interaction with Indiewire, he shared some updates on the remake of “The Running Man.” According to Powell, the upcoming Stephen King adaptation will begin principal photography by the end of the year in London. His excitement for the project is palpable even through a transcript. In his own words, Powell said, [

Edgar Wright and I have been exchanging ideas on script details for this project, and I find it incredibly enjoyable. The universe Edgar has created for this production is absolutely outrageous and of high quality. Our shared enthusiasm for Stephen King’s original work is palpable, and the character we are developing promises to be fantastic. I’m genuinely excited about it.

I’ve been an avid reader of Stephen King’s works for decades, and I was thrilled when I heard they were making a movie adaptation of “The Running Man.” However, having read the original novel under his pseudonym Richard Bachman, I must admit that my excitement was tinged with a hint of trepidation. You see, the 1987 film bears very little resemblance to the book.

Ben has the prospect of earning $1 billion if he manages to elude hunters and live hidden from society for 30 consecutive days. However, this is not an easy feat, as there will be a team of hunters pursuing him relentlessly, and everyday people are incentivized with rewards for sharing information that could lead to his capture or demise. The longer Ben remains undetected, the greater the financial reward for his loved ones.

Glen Powell is thrilled not only about being involved in Edgar Wright’s latest project, but also excited to collaborate with the director himself. In an interview, the “Top Gun: Maverick” actor shared that working with the creator of “Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz,” and “Baby Driver” has been a long-held ambition for him, and now this desire is finally being fulfilled.

In 2008, when I relocated to LA, I compiled a list of directors I hoped to collaborate with, which I shared with my representative. Edgar Wright was at the very top of that list. My admiration for his work runs deep. It’s truly exhilarating that I get to work with him today.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled beyond words to be working with one of my idols on “The Running Man” project. This opportunity means more to me than just another role in a game or movie. I promise Edgar Wright that I will pour all my energy and passion into making this production a success. My work ethic is something I take pride in, but for this project, I’m willing to go the extra mile and give it my all.

At the last possible moment, I passionately urged him to consider my dedication during our work collaboration. It’s common knowledge among those who have worked with me that my work ethic is unrivaled. However, it’s essential for filmmakers to be reminded of this, especially when things get intense. Rest assured, I am committed and will put in my best effort for you. This job means a lot to me, but beyond that, I’m also an ardent admirer of your talent. The thought of letting down someone I look up to is unbearable.

In the near future, the filming of “The Running Man” will commence, leading to an increase in news and information regarding this highly-anticipated project. Michael Bacall (“Scott Pilgrim vs The World”) is writing the screenplay based on Stephen King’s novel, while Paramount Pictures is responsible for production and distribution. We eagerly await updates on the release date as well as the announcement of additional cast members joining Glen Powell.
