As a longtime fan of action films, I must admit, the Twisters sequel has me more than just a little excited! The chemistry between Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones is palpable, and the tension between their characters is enough to make even the sturdiest of storm shelters tremble.
Regardless if there’s a kiss or not, Glen Powell is simply thrilled that people show such enthusiasm for the movie Twisters, sparking online conversations.
In a chat with Screenrant, the actor, who is co-starring with Daisy Edgar-Jones in the follow-up to the 1996 movie Twister, has spoken about his feelings towards the unexpected buzz surrounding the decision to exclude a kiss between them from the film.
“He remarked, ‘I’ve taken it quite personally!’ He added, ‘You might have noticed the backstage footage, in which I got to share a kiss with Daisy Edgar-Jones. That, as they say, is what truly matters.’ [Laughs] We had a wonderful time making the movie, and I’m incredibly proud of it.”
The romantic tension between Tyler, played by Powell, a skilled storm chaser, and Kate, portrayed by Edgar-Jones, a retired tornado chaser, steadily increases throughout the movie as they collaborate to confront a colossal tornado. Contrary to expectations, no on-screen kiss was included in the final version of the film. However, it wasn’t until later that footage surfaced on social media, showing the actors filming an alternative ending where they do share a kiss (disappointing some fans).
Powell commented, “I genuinely believe that the response, or backlash if you will, demonstrates that people truly care, which is fantastic.” He continued, “The enthusiasm surrounding the film has been incredible, and Daisy and I exchange TikTok videos and GIFs about it. There’s so much hilarious content being generated. It’s entertaining! That’s what summer movies are all about. It sparks discussion and cultural relevance, and people participate enthusiastically. It’s been truly amazing. Regardless of whether there was a kiss or not, everyone wins.”
Previously, Director Lee Isaac Chung has openly explained his reasoning behind the non-kiss finale, affirming that he remains steadfast in his choice.
The filmmaker commented, “I did go ahead with the kiss scene, but it caused quite a divide among viewers – not due to their acting in the scene. Instead, I prefer the alternate ending where no kiss is shown. I believe this version has more impact and serves as a better conclusion. Those who expected a kiss may assume these characters will share one in future, allowing us to grant them some privacy for that moment.”
At the moment, he expressed, “In essence, this conclusion serves to ensure we tie up loose ends joyfully. If it finishes with a kiss, it may appear as though Kate’s journey was merely about finding a kiss. However, it’s more fitting that it concludes with her carrying on with a smile, continuing her work.”
Edgar-Jones has also described the ending that made the final cut as “nice and refreshing.”
