Glen Powell Reveals the Bill Paxton Acting Trick He Used in ‘Twisters’

As a gamer and a huge fan of the Twister franchise, I was deeply moved by Glen Powell‘s heartfelt interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert about his experiences working with Bill Paxton and keeping his memory alive throughout his career.

Glen Powell is sharing how he’s kept Bill Paxton‘s memory alive throughout his career thus far.

During an interview on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the Twisters actor reminisced about collaborating with the late actor on a movie in the past.

“I made a film named ‘Red Wing’ many years ago, and Bill and I grew very fond of each other during that production,” Powell shared. He remembered Paxton as being deeply interested in the weather, even more so after acting in ‘Twister’. Consequently, he continued to deliver weather updates just like his character did in that movie.”

Before appearing in “Hidden Figures,” Powell shared that Paxton generously offered him “much of the research from his time on Apollo 13.” Additionally, Powell mentioned learning a valuable acting technique from Paxton which he has employed throughout his career.

As a seasoned actor with years of experience under my belt, I’ve faced numerous challenges while shooting outdoors, particularly squinting against the bright sunlight. But Bill, a fellow actor I once worked with on the set of “Twisters,” taught me an invaluable trick that has become an essential part of my career ever since.

In the new version of “Twisters,” Powell takes the lead role, providing a modern spin on the 1996 hit movie “Twister” featuring Paxton and Helen Hunt. Joining Powell in this production are Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos.

In the movie “Twisters,” Edgar-Jones portrays Kate Cooper, a previous storm chaser turned screen analyst of weather patterns, haunted by a past traumatic experience with a tornado from her college days. Persuaded by her friend Javi (Ramos) to resume chasing storms on the vast plains for testing a new tracking device, they encounter Tyler Owens (Powell), an internet sensation who shares his storm-chasing experiences online. As the storm season grows increasingly severe, they must struggle to survive.

Paxton died of a stroke in 2017 following complications during heart surgery.

I, as a devoted fan, am thrilled that James Paxton, Paxton’s son, graced the new “Twisters” movie with his presence. According to him, interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, his father harbored a deep desire to be involved in this sequel. He recognized the unique allure of this franchise, which can deliver an enjoyable and thrilling experience for theatergoers, while also touching on relevant and significant topics. In essence, James Paxton saw it as an opportunity to bring back the classic blockbuster feel.
