Go Behind the Scenes of Bridget’s Cosmic Poker Game in Resident Alien Season 4 (WATCH)

In the fourth season of “Resident Alien,” the episode titled “The Human Condition” bore a resemblance to “Men in Black” as it featured an extraordinary poker game at Harry’s lakeside cabin, orchestrated by Bridget herself. Time truly flies, doesn’t it?

At this casual card event, there are several alien beings with a humanoid structure in attendance, among them is Dale, a time travel specialist (Linden Porco), and two newcomers we haven’t met before. One of the newbies sports a lantern-like appendage resembling an anglerfish attached to his head.

Cayley Giene, a specialist in makeup effects, revealed that the deep-sea predator played a significant role in shaping the character’s appearance. Additionally, the character was also influenced by a pug and a dinosaur.

She explained that they often combine everyday objects to create unique, otherworldly beings, as shown in the latest making-of video (you can watch it above).

In the series, our protagonist Alan Tudyk expresses his delight about encountering more extraterrestrial beings, saying ‘I absolutely adore that aspect.’ The character Harry attempts to engage them in poker, but it doesn’t go smoothly. It’s like an unwelcome interruption when your father joins your friends for a game; things just don’t work out. He wants male bonding time, but the aliens prefer to interact on their terms – as aliens. I, too, am human now.

In the video you saw earlier, director and executive producer Robert Duncan McNeill shared an interesting tidbit – the initial idea was to keep the scene relatively straightforward.

Initially, our plans for the aliens were quite humble: we thought we’d create a few with pointy ears. However, things began simply and then, as we considered Bridget potentially playing poker with these extraterrestrial beings, it dawned on us that this was an excellent chance to go all out. Our special effects makeup team truly excelled in the task.

According to Chris Sheridan, the creator, showrunner, and executive producer, what they assembled came together surprisingly fast, and it was truly remarkable. He noted that the challenge lies in creating unique alien characters since there have been so many of them portrayed on television and in films already. Coming up with something new is tough, he added.
